July 8, 2022 – a day off or a working day in Our Country?

Despite the fact that the Day of Family, Love and Fidelity is now considered an official holiday, the answer to the question “Will July 8 in 2022 be a day off?” so far unambiguous: no, it will not.

But this may change soon. We tell you in which case a new red day of the calendar may appear in Our Country.

Is there an official government order

There is no official confirmation that July 8, 2022 will become a day off in Our Country. However, the chain of events that develops around this possibility may well lead to such a natural outcome. 

The Day of Family, Love and Fidelity, which is celebrated every year on July 8 (the day of memory of Saints Peter and Fevronia), has not been an official celebration for a long time. However, this has recently changed: on June 28, 2022, President Vladimir Putin signed a decree (1) establishing this holiday. That is, now July 8 is an official holiday in our country.

But this does not mean that the date can be considered a day off.

The difference is that non-working days are public holidays. This is not a synonym for official ones: for example, the official holiday is Father’s Day, and the state holiday is Our Country Day. In the first case, we do not have an additional day off, but in the second, we do.

At the same time, on July 7, 2022, a draft law (2) was submitted to the State Duma of the Federation, according to which July 8 should become a non-working day. Amendments to the Labor Code were proposed by an initiative group of deputies from the Communist Party of the Federation and A Just Our Country – For Truth. The explanatory note to the bill reads as follows:

“The proposed assignment of July 8 to non-working holidays will allow our citizens to gather with the whole family, spend time with their relatives and friends, which, in turn, will help strengthen family ties, make young people think about how important it is to keep the family, loyalty and love throughout life.

The draft law is currently under consideration, it must be adopted in three readings, as well as receive the approval of the Federation Council and the signature of the President of the Federation. If this happens and the corresponding law is published in official sources, then the s will have another holiday date in their production calendar.
