Juliette Arnaud, a funny mother
After her triumph at the theater in the play Arrête de Pleurer Pénélope, the actress Juliette Arnaud sets out to conquer the small screen with the series “Drôle de famille”. Meet.
Her vision of family life, her fears, her anxieties… the actress Juliette Arnaud gave herself with the greatest sincerity to her new role, that of Elsa, a mother unlike any other. Interview truth.
Could you introduce us to your character, Elsa, in the “Funny Family” series?
Elsa is a light, crazy and inconsistent woman. She is a beautiful person, as far as she can afford.
What do you have in common with Elsa?
I would love to be like her, but I’m too scared for that!
Between work and family, Elsa often has trouble reconciling everything. What would be your advice to get there?
Having no children, I would have a hard time giving advice. But when I do, I think, like Elsa, it will make me unhappy. I will feel guilty about everything and, above all, I will worry about everything. My man will have to tell me 14 times a day “Juliet, calm down”. It will appease me.
At 40, Elsa would sometimes like to regain the freedom of her 20 years, is it something that you have already felt?
Yes of course. I miss the carelessness of my 20s. But I live with it, anyway, life is made up of frustrations.
Wobbly life or a more classic family model, what do you find most appealing to you?
A wobbly life, without hesitation. The classic model bothers me. It is important for me that there are alternatives to the family. I think that for a child there is nothing more rewarding than several role models. In my family, I had several models: my cousins, my aunts, my grandmother and, sometimes even, my mother’s best friend… There are as many models as there are human beings, it’s great.
Elsa has a busy family life, yet you can sense a certain fear of loneliness in her. Does this seem paradoxical to you?
It is paradoxical, but normal. When we have children, we are often surrounded by a lot of people, but we also need solitude. It is important, in my opinion, that a woman takes the time to do nothing. These moments allow you to rebalance.
Like Elsa does, do you think it is necessary to question yourself when you’re a parent?
Sure. It seems to me necessary in life in general to question yourself. This is all the more important when you become a parent.
You could say that Elsa is strong and fragile at the same time. Is this the definition of woman for you?
I don’t have a definition of a woman. In my opinion, man and woman, it’s the same. We all have a part of strength and fragility. What matters is the proportion which varies from person to person. This is what makes them interesting and engaging.
What are your future projects?
At the start of the school year, I release my first novel “Arsène”. And I continue the adventure “Funny family”, episode 3 will be broadcast on September 5 on France 2.
