This novel in letters is a great book for anyone who wants to learn more about psychology, but is not yet ready to sit down to study scientific monographs. This is the third book by the Argentinean psychologist Jorge Bukay in Russian. Bukai refers to the form of an epistolary novel, the hero of which is himself. He writes letters to a young girl, his former patient, answering her questions about the meaning of life, about friendship and love … and about psychotherapy as a science and art. The hero tells his young girlfriend about what neurosis is, how we use psychological defenses like projections, introjections or identifications, what games people play according to the theory of Eric Berne and, of course, what is gestalt — after all, this is the direction of psychotherapy the author himself.
