This means that the member states of the European Union will be able to vaccinate with this preparation. The first doses will be able to reach Poland in the second half of April.

The Johnson & Johnson vaccine against COVID-19 in April may be in Poland

On Thursday, March 11, the European Medicines Agency (EMA) issued an opinion on the Johnson & Johnson vaccine. The preparation was given the green light, PAP reported. The EMA will now recommend the European Commission to approve the use of this vaccine in member countries. This means that four COVID-19 vaccines will be approved for use in the European Union: Pfizer, Moderna, AstraZeneca and Johnson & Johnson.

– The provision in the contract with J&J is that the preparation will be delivered one month from the confirmation of the delivery schedule. We have not yet received the schedule, so it can be expected that the first delivery will take place in the second half of April – Michał Kuczmierowski, president of the Governmental Reserve Agency, told PAP.

Johnson & Johnson vaccine for COVID-19 – how many doses, how effective

The formulation from Johnson & Johnson is a vector vaccine (such as AstraZeneca). It is based on the use of fragments of other viruses to trigger an immune response against a specific virus – in this case, the SARS-COV-2 coronavirus. Vector vaccines are a relatively new technology.

Contrary to other preparations that have been approved for use in the European Union, Johnson & Johnson vaccine is single dose. It is not necessary to administer a second dose of the preparation to gain resistance to COVID-19.

When it comes to the effectiveness of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, it is 66 percent., as reported in January by Janssen, which belongs to Johnson & Johnson.
