John Corr (John Corr) – Russian scotch blended from Scottish spirits produced by Inver House Distillers. The drink was developed at the Moscow distillery “KiN” and has a complex and varied taste, typical for high-quality Scottish blends. Despite its young age, the brand has already received high marks from experts in industry competitions. Whiskey belongs to the mid-price segment.
Historical information
The Moscow enterprise “KiN” has existed since 1940. The plant began its work with the production of lemonade and sweet syrup. Alcohol began to be made here only in 1958 – the product line included alcohol infusions based on natural fruits. In the 60s, the assortment was supplemented with wines and cognacs. During the years of perestroika, the plant became an open joint stock company. In the mid-90s, the management relied on the development of their own original brands of alcohol.
The primary task was the creation of high-quality cognacs. The company already had experience working with French distillates back in Soviet times, and since 1997 the production of blends from imported raw materials has become the main focus of the company, which allowed it to take a leading position in this segment. In 2016, it was decided to replenish the range with their own whiskey.
It was not easy to start production – under the conditions determined by UK law, the organization had to register with the country’s Customs and Revenue Service. An agreement on the supply of aged spirits for the new scotch was signed with the management of Inver House Distillers, one of the largest whiskey producers. The companies own five distilleries in different regions of Scotland, which annually produce more than 12 million liters of products.
Scottish craftsmen worked on the recipe for John Corr whiskey together with the chief winemaker of the plant, Marina Tyagileva, who devoted her whole life to creating cognac blends. The composition of the scotch includes grain and malt spirits with a three-year and five-year exposure. As a result, a drink appeared with organoleptic characteristics that corresponded to the tastes of Russians.
The presentation of the novelty took place in November 2016 at the Bobby Dazzler Pub. The experts present at the tasting highly appreciated the quality of the scotch tape and noted that it seems to be older than the declared age. This is due to the fact that, according to Scottish standards, the aging period of whiskey is indicated by the youngest spirits, although a distillate with a longer maturation period may be included in the mixture.
Award: Best vodka 2017, Moscow – a gold medal and a victory in the Discovery of the Year nomination.
