History of the John Collins Cocktail

The only thing that is known for certain about this cocktail is the time of its appearance, at the end of the nineteenth century, and the rest of the information is rather vague and contradictory.

It is believed that a bartender named Tom Collins came up with it along with his brother Lon. They worked at the London bar Limmer’s.

The brothers used different varieties of gin, but otherwise their recipe is the same as the modern one.

In 1937, the International Bartenders Association (IBA) suggested using the name Collins for a gin-based cocktail, but this idea was not popular.
