Jaundice vaccinations – against hepatitis A, hepatitis C, side effects

In Poland, vaccinations against jaundice are mandatory, commonly known as vaccinations against viral hepatitis. Although not everyone knows about it, hepatitis is divided into several varieties assigned to different vaccines. Which of them are mandatory and which are only recommended? Is it worth taking each of them to reduce the risk of falling ill?

What is the hepatitis A vaccination?

There are several types viral hepatitisagainst which it is adopted vaccine. The first is Hepatitis A. Vaccine when given against this type of jaundice, it causes a natural defense mechanism against the disease within about 4 weeks. Two doses of this are given vaccineat intervals of several months or a year. Is it grafting dedicated to many groups of people: children entering the period of school education, people planning to travel abroad to places with a high level of incidence of this type of hepatitis, people who have contact with food products in their work, employees of medical institutions and people belonging to a group with an increased risk of disease.

Doctors often hear the question of how long they are valid vaccinations against this type of jaundice? Usually vaccine guarantees safety for a period of 20 years from the moment of administration. Although the status of this vaccine it is highly safe, there are contraindications for taking it. First of all, it should not be given to people suffering from fever, whether it is caused by a chronic disease or caused by the common cold. It is also discouraged to take this vaccine pregnant women, due to the insufficient number of studies documenting its safety in relation to the health and life of the fetus. Because vaccine this belongs to the group of recommended, not mandatory, its implementation is payable and costs PLN 130 for children and PLN 160 for adults.

Vaccination against hepatitis B

Vaccination against hepatitis B jest compulsory vaccination. The first dose is given to newborns within 2 hours from birth. The next 3 or 6 doses are given consecutively every XNUMX weeks (depending on the vaccines chosen by the parents). If there is such a need, vaccine is administered in an accelerated sequence: during the first day of life, then after 7 days, and after 21. Vaccination this is especially recommended for people who have not been vaccinated against it typical jaundice in childhood, and who work in medical facilities, prisons, educational centers that will have contact with people suffering from this disease or with Hepatitis C.

Unfortunately, then there is no refund, and the cost of administering such a vaccine is PLN 70 or PLN 160. This vaccine is one of the safest and best-studied, it can be administered without any particular contraindications to pregnant women and new mothers during breastfeeding.

Vaccination against hepatitis C

Hepatitis C it is especially dangerous because of its asymptomatic pattern of development. For many years, this disease can develop in our body, damaging the liver without causing any external symptoms. Unfortunately, this disease carries an additional risk, such as the possibility of its unconscious further spread, for example through sexual contact.

Do hepatitis vaccines have side effects?

As with many medical preparations, also vaccines against hepatitis can trigger some side effects. In the case of a vaccine against hepatitis B however, they are relatively mild and pose no threat to the health or life of vaccinated people. The most common symptoms are headache, feeling physically weak, slightly elevated body temperature, and allergic reactions on the skin. However, none of these symptoms should last longer than 3 days.
