Japanese method of correction
Read about the essence of the method and the opinions of experts regarding its effectiveness in the material.
Become slim quickly and effortlessly … Sounds incredible, you must agree. Such miracles, perhaps, happen only in fairy tales. Especially when it comes to losing weight at home. However, the Japanese physician Fukutsuji assures that there is nothing incredible in this: in his best-selling book, he described in detail how to achieve stunning results without exhausting diets, exercise and financial costs. Wday decided to figure out how effective this method of losing weight is.
Instead of sending his patients to the gym or restricting them from eating according to the Japanese diet, Fukutsuji-sensei decided to fix … the human skeleton. He conducted a number of experiments and came to the conclusion that the divergence of the pelvic and hypochondriac bones often affects the size of the waist. And he offered to remove this discrepancy with a regular towel roller.
What is the method of body shaping with a towel roller
The essence of the method is simple:
We take a towel, roll it up and tie it with a strong thread or, even better, an elastic bandage.
We lie down on a hard surface and place the roller under the back at the level of the navel.
We stretch our arms back, palms should “look” at the floor, we direct our feet so that the heels are apart, and the thumbs are in contact with each other (see the picture above). And we lie in this position for 5 minutes. At first, from habit, very painful sensations may appear – in this case, you should start with 2-3 minutes, gradually increasing the time.
You can also put a roller under the beginning of the ribs to make the waistline more pronounced, or under the chest to raise it.
Roller diameter can range from very small to imposing. Usually, small rollers are used in the first sessions to give patients a little getting used to. However, the size depends entirely on you: lying on the roller should not be too comfortable, but not particularly painful.
Also, using this method, you can align your posture and even grow slightly. Fukutsuji-sensei assures that the result becomes noticeable after a couple of sessions. It is noteworthy that you can resort to this method under the supervision of an osteopathic doctor or massage therapist, as well as directly at home.
Despite the quite logical explanations of Fukutsuji and even a very convincing video, we were not left in doubt: does the method actually work? We talked with experts and found out all the ins and outs of the issue.
Expert opinion on the Japanese body shaping method

– The Fukutsuji Method is a good posture tool. It is a super effective remedy for stretching the internal organs and the spine. But no miracles (in terms of influence on metabolic or hormonal levels) should be expected, – the nutritionist and fitness guru is sure. Yana Stepanova.
What are the visible results associated with, especially in the waist area? When we lie on a twisted roller, we unload our lumbar region, i.e. hyperlordosis (excessive deflection) is corrected, breathing and posture are improved. Moreover, the method has a psychophysiological effect, since posture affects our psycho-emotional background. As a result, the waist seems to be narrower, the overhanging sides leave and the spine decompression occurs, which occurs due to a sedentary lifestyle.
But I want to emphasize again that the Japanese method has nothing to do with weight loss. Therefore, I recommend using it in combination with proper nutrition, daily regimen and physical activity. After all, the straighter our posture, the slimmer and taller we seem, the belly is more tucked up, and the swelling disappears from the face.
– Lose weight with a roller? To be honest, the effectiveness of this method raises my deepest doubts, – admitted the doctor of sciences, an expert on the problems of weight impairment. Alexander Sergeev… “I’m not even sure this Japanese doctor has a medical background. His conclusions about the divergence of the pelvic and hypochondriac bones contradict everything we know about the human skeleton. Our spine is designed to withstand enormous loads, the bones are firmly connected to each other and cannot easily diverge, and then, under the influence of a conventional roller, converge back. Minor discrepancies can occur when a woman is pregnant and in the short period after childbirth, but that’s about it.
I think if you submit the Fukutsuji method to a college of doctors, then it will be blown to smithereens. Excess weight does not appear due to the divergence of bones, but due to metabolic disorders. It is necessary to correct it, and not to lie on the roller for five minutes a day. And I’m not even talking about the fact that this method can harm patients with spinal diseases at all. So I do not advise you to take the roller seriously and consider it a panacea for all ills. It is better to consult a doctor so that he can find a way to restore your normal metabolism, slimness and beauty.
Masseur, specialist in osteopathic and Thai massage
– Let me disagree with the previous speaker. Of course, I would not say that the roller helps to get rid of excess weight, but to tighten the chest, make the waist line more pronounced and improve posture – it’s easy, – said the masseur Ksenia Egorova… – I myself have been practicing this method for a long time to help patients get rid of problems with the spine, to feel more vigorous and more confident in themselves. After all, if a person does not slouch, then he looks much better: he keeps his back straight, automatically pulls in his stomach and seems more slender than in reality.
As for the discrepancy of the bones, the official medicine does not recognize this possibility. But the bones can indeed diverge, albeit slightly. So in this case, Dr. Fukutsuji does not deceive us: if you put the bones back in place and use a roller to break the clamps of the connective tissue, then it will become much easier to move, and health will improve, and this will also be reflected in the figure.
By the way, you can not only lie on the roller. You can twist a small roll of a towel and roll it over your thighs for five minutes a day – this has a good effect on blood circulation, relieves muscle tension and slightly reduces cellulite. And if you want to relieve the pressure on the neck and destroy the “widow’s mound”, then take two tennis balls, stuff them into a sock, twist and tie in the middle with a thread. Place them under your neck for five minutes – and you’re done!
In general, rollers are not bad. Although I must warn you that you should not expect amazing effects in terms of losing weight. After them, your figure will become more contoured, but you are unlikely to lose much weight. In addition, there really are contraindications to this method, for example, a hernia, so you will first have to consult a specialist.
