😉 Greetings, dear readers! Thank you for choosing the article “Japandi style in the interior: what are its features” on this site!
Every year the interior design piggy bank is replenished with new chips. One of the latter is japandi. It is a symbiosis that has combined the permanently relevant Japanese and Scandinavian styles.
The advent of japandi is not a sensation at all. It should have been invented, since both directions, both Scandinavian and Japanese, fit perfectly into modern society, correspond to its needs and values. But what exactly do Japanese and Scandinavian houses have in common, so geographically distant from each other?
- The dominance of natural finishing materials;
- neutral colors, pacifying shades characteristic of wildlife;
- laconic decor with an emphasis on green plants and graphics.
- Scandi-style gave the new trend its orderliness, practicality, love for wood. And Japan – restraint, pedantry, attraction to minimalism.
Japandi style in the apartment
To arrange a dwelling according to the rules of japandi is:
- minimalism;
- highlight functionality and neatness. The principle, first of all, means the presence of closed and open numerous storage systems – shelves, wicker baskets, organizers;
- choose low and non-massive furniture;
- focus on clear geometric shapes. Lines can be straight or rounded, but always simple, without intricacy;
- be sure to purchase several items of rattan, bamboo, vines: an armchair, a table for tea, a mat;
- buy “long-term” furnishings – from durable woods, natural raw materials with high abrasion resistance;
- bring a pinch of wabi-sabi into the space. As you know, this is a special Japanese aesthetics associated with the inner, genuine, archaic beauty of objects. Such beauty is characterized by roughness and a certain flaw – evidence of handicraft work;
- in modern interiors, wabi-sabi manifests itself in the form of slightly carelessly applied plaster, elements of untreated wood, brutal pottery;
- adhere to a palette consisting of shades of brown, gray, white;
- remember that textiles should stand out not with paints and prints, but with texture. Flax, burlap, viscose, wool, sheepskin are suitable for this.
We mentioned the minimality of the decor. It is worth adding that the best japandi-style home decorations are monochrome landscapes and fluffy, sprawling cortaderia in floor vases.
A pair of ceramic, without glaze figurines, a wooden candlestick, and a cache-pot using the macrame technique will not break the harmony. Japandi is not a design axiom; you have the right to integrate your own into it. After all, Russian ethnicity also relies on natural materials and paints. The main thing is to get rid of the trash and live in harmony.
