A patient from Great Britain tells about monkey pox
Patient Zero in Great Britain decided to talk about his disease on TalkTV’s “The News Desk”. The 35-year-old was diagnosed with monkey pox on his return from Dubai. James initially refused to believe that he might have contracted the disease. The more so because he did not notice any characteristic symptoms that would indicate that it was in fact monkey pox.
«Everyone was talking about a characteristic rash, papules or pimples that I didn’t have at any time in my illness. It looked more like the flu. I had a fever, I was very exhausted, my back hurt. Nevertheless, when I called my clinic, they advised me to come for a monkey pox test. I must admit that it surprised me a lot. But I did it and it turned out to be positive »recalls James.
The 35-year-old also notes that he felt really bad for the first week. Fortunately, now his well-being is back to normal.
The course of monkey pox
The National Health Service warns that it can take up to 21 days for the symptoms of monkey pox to appear. The rash is not the first of these. At the beginning, there are, among others:
- fever,
- Headache,
- muscle aches,
- back pain,
- enlargement of the lymph nodes,
- chills,
- general fatigue.
Only five days after noticing the first symptoms, we may develop a rash. The NHS points out that we can initially see it on the face. Only later does it begin to cover the rest of the body. At first, it resembles raised patches that turn into small blisters filled with fluid. Finally, they form scabs that fall off on their own.
Specialists will calm you down and ensure that monkey pox is usually very mild and does not cause complications. A person suffering from it returns to full strength after a few weeks. Moreover, the virus is poorly transmitted from person to person. For this to happen, there must be close contact with the objects on which the discharge from the blisters on the patient’s body has remained. The monkey pox virus enters our body through the respiratory tract, mucous membranes or damaged skin, among others.
If we notice disturbing symptoms, and we have previously traveled to Africa, for example, we should consult our doctor. He will guide us and tell us what to do. Until then, we should isolate ourselves and avoid contact with people.
