IVF free under compulsory medical insurance, how to get pregnant

It turns out that for this you only need a compulsory medical insurance policy.

Since 2019, it has become much easier to get pregnant with IVF in St. Petersburg for free. Patients can now receive a referral for IVF at their chosen clinic in their antenatal clinic. This is because the commission for the selection of patients has been disbanded, and this greatly simplifies and shortens the path of treatment.

We will tell you how to do IVF under the policy in the center EmbryLife.

First of all, the patient turns to the antenatal clinic under the compulsory medical insurance policy to make a diagnosis and receive a referral for IVF. Having received a referral, the patient comes for a free consultation at EmbryLife on the 2-3rd day of the menstrual cycle (m.ts.).

IMPORTANT: In Vitro Fertilization cannot be started on any day of the cycle. The start date of the IVF program (hormone stimulation of ovulation) is tied to a woman’s menstrual cycle.

On the day of the consultation, the patient is taken blood tests for three hormones: estradiol, progesterone and FSH, as well as an ultrasound scan. During this period, ultrasound is very indicative, despite the fact that it is performed on the 2-3 day of the cycle. Based on the results of the examinations, the doctor decides which of the treatment options the patient needs: “short protocol” or “long protocol”.

In the first case, the patient immediately enters the IVF program, the first injection of hormones is given to her and a certificate of incapacity for work is issued. In the second case, the first injection will be given on the 21st day of the menstrual cycle.

IMPORTANT: the experience of EmbryLife doctors allows you to choose the right protocol and treatment method. We can speak with confidence about this, since the statistics of the Social Insurance Fund for 2018 showed that the highest percentage of successful treatment is in EmbryLife.

Further, the IVF algorithm is the same.

– Stimulation of the ovaries (injections) with the help of hormones for 10-14 days (on the first day, the woman opens a certificate of incapacity for work).

– Introduction of a special drug (trigger injection) to stimulate the maturation of oocytes 36 hours before the puncture.

– Puncture of the ovaries (under general anesthesia).

– At the same time, the spouse / partner donates sperm in a special room.

– On the same day, in the conditions of the embryological laboratory, the selected mature oocytes are fertilized with the partner’s sperm.

– Cultivation of embryos for 5 days in laboratory conditions.

IMPORTANT: for the cultivation of embryos at the EmbryLife clinic, modern single-stage media are used, which allow embryos to be “left alone” until the 5th day of development, which has a positive effect on the quality and number of well-developing embryos

– Selection of high-quality embryos and their transfer to the patient (no more than 2) 5 days after the puncture (about which high-quality embryos, read below).

– On the 14th day after the transfer, blood is donated for an analysis that determines pregnancy (hCG) (on this day the certificate of incapacity for work is closed, regardless of the result of the analysis).

As a result, the IVF procedure takes about 3 weeks.

Which embryos are good? Those who are capable of implantation and development!

The degree of fragmentation (the percentage of non-nuclear cells to normal) up to 25% is considered a variant of the norm. In most cases, such embryos develop and implant normally. A high degree of fragmentation is a sign of reduced embryo viability, and the more pronounced it is, the worse the prognosis for further development.

The quality of embryos is assessed not only by the degree of fragmentation, but also by many other parameters in the cultivation process and immediately before transfer.

There are eggs, but no embryos….

– Based on my more than 10 years of experience working with patients, including women over 40 years old, I can say with confidence: despite the absence of many reproductive health complaints (maintaining a regular cycle and an adequate ovarian reserve of ovaries) and any contraindications for conceiving a healthy child, there is a threat to receive low quality embryos in the IVF protocol. Or, according to the results of the performed genetic diagnostics, I see that there are embryos with chromosomal abnormalities.

Strictly speaking, patients of older reproductive age who decide to use the IVF procedure and have gone through all the IVF stages, most likely receive low quality embryos that die before the fifth day. Either these will be embryos with chromosomal abnormalities, in which pregnancy will not occur, or, with a high probability, everything will end with an early termination of pregnancy.

But even in such situations, today in modern medicine there is a solution that will significantly increase the chances of getting a long-awaited pregnancy and the birth of a healthy child. I recommend using anonymous egg donation. In such cases, an egg donor is selected together with a doctor, the most suitable by type, type of blood, and even by education or handwriting.
