“Dream Fulfillment Day”

“My first performance, which I staged at the age of 16 based on my own play, was sent to the main amateur theater festival in the republic. In order to be in time for the performance, it was necessary to leave school. But the physics teacher did not let go, threatening with a unit at the end of the year, and for this they could be left for the second year. And I chickened out – I didn’t leave. Nightmare! After the death of my grandmother, this day seemed to me the most tragic. But after the lesson, going out into the street, I suddenly saw a car: mom and dad were waiting for me to take me to the performance … Dad never drove at such a speed in his life! And after the performance, they were discussed by the jury, and the professor of the Theater Academy began to convince them that I needed to direct. It was after that that they took my dream of theater seriously.”

“I am my mom and my dad. I am Petr Naumovich Fomenko. I am my friends. I am my wife and daughter. I am the people to whom I give and who give to me. These are the people who have shaped me and are shaping me. In this question “Who am I?” there is some completeness, some point at the end, despite the question mark. And we, the students of Fomenko, following our master, prefer dots. I could still answer with the words of Pyotr Naumovich that “an autopsy will show.” I don’t know, I never asked myself this question, maybe I didn’t think about it, or maybe I was afraid to think about it or didn’t want to. Today I am a director, tomorrow a father, the day after tomorrow a son, today I explain – tomorrow I study, today I dream and fly – tomorrow I stand firmly on the ground. And often all this together, on the same day. And in general, is it necessary to answer who I am? If you know how to put on a play, then why put it on? But the process of finding this “how” is the most interesting thing. It’s the same in life. Answer the question “Who am I?” – and that’s it, nowhere else to go, it’s not interesting.
