Italian upholstered furniture that glows in the dark

The Via Lattea (Milky Way) upholstered furniture, designed by Mario Bellini for the Italian factory Meritalia, most of all resembles candy spread over a platter room.

Sofas, armchairs and poufs from the Via Lattea collection live up to their name. They are weightless and glow in the dark. The lightness of the structure is provided by the frame and the thin steel mesh, and the soft cold glow is provided by the LEDs located inside. Recyclable materials are used as upholstery – recycled sacking.

It is not the first time that the famous designer and architect Mario Bellini has tried to turn our eyes to the stars. Last year he also developed for Meritalia a line of upholstered furniture Stardust (Stardust), the weightless stuffing of which was made from hundreds of plastic bags filled with air.
