A purple plant with a distinctive flavor, eggplant is an unusual fruit (yes, according to botany, it is a fruit – and even a berry!). According to the Greeks and Italians, it is an aphrodisiac and we find some truth in this claim. Eggplant contains a lot of potassium, magnesium and calcium, and these minerals have e.g. good effect on the functioning of our genitals. Many people who are on a slimming diet are also considering introducing eggplant to their menu. Who should eat it, and who better to advise against eating this plant?

It has many names: eggplant, love pear, oblong nightshade, or bush egg. However, the most famous term for its fruit in our country is “eggplant”. In Europe, the consumption of this beautiful plant was initiated by the Italians.

For those who are slimming, we have good news – eggplant is low in calories (only 100 kcal in 20 grams). Whether it will help us in our pursuit of a slim figure, of course, depends on the method of preparation – if we eat it in the “fit” version, it will be an excellent and healthy element of a reduction diet. As much as 90% of eggplant is water, 2% – sugars. Among the nutritional values, we can find large amounts of dietary fiber (which accelerates metabolism and facilitates fat loss), calcium, potassium, magnesium, manganese, copper, as well as small amounts of vitamins.

In addition to the properties hidden inside this plant, the skin of the eggplant itself is also valuable. Its purple color is due to the presence of anthocyanins, i.e. antioxidants that slow down the aging process of the body. In addition to anthocyanins, nasunin is present in it, protecting cell membranes and the entire body against the development of cancer. Eggplant is recommended during antibiotic treatment, to reduce the risk of cancer, to cleanse the body of toxins, to lower blood pressure, cholesterol and to improve metabolism.

Despite this, this fruit is hard to digest, so it will not be recommended for consumption in larger quantities to people who struggle with digestive ailments. This is mainly due to the fact that there is a lot of fiber in eggplant, which when consumed in excess can cause, for example, flatulence. Too much eggplant consumption can cause stomach problems for them. They should also avoid it:

  • People suffering from kidney ailments,
  • Kids,
  • People with rheumatic problems,
  • suffering from gout,
  • Pregnant women.
