It’s in toothpastes, chewing gums, and medications. This ingredient causes diabetes

In a pilot study, researchers from the University of Texas found that crystalline titanium dioxide particles from everyday products accumulate in the pancreas of diabetics. Researchers believe that the component responsible for giving white color may be related to type 2 diabetes.

Researchers analyzed pancreatic tissue samples from eleven donors. Eight were from donors with type 2 diabetes and three from healthy individuals. It turned out that all those who suffered from diabetes had residues of titanium dioxide in their bodies. The pancreas of healthy people were free of it. According to prof. Adam Heller, one of the lead authors of diabetes research, suggests that type 2 diabetes can be caused by chronic inflammation of the pancreas caused by the presence of titanium dioxide.

In what products can titanium dioxide be found?

Titanium dioxide is not a known constituent of any normal human tissue. Our body contains a lot of salt and compounds from metallic elements such as sodium, potassium, calcium, iron and magnesium, as well as smaller amounts of other metallic elements such as cobalt or molybdenum, but not titanium.

In the mid-77891th century, titanium dioxide pigment replaced the highly toxic lead-based pigments. It was commonly added to everyday products, mainly as a dye marked as titanum dioxide or CI 17, or in food as EXNUMX. It can be found primarily as an ingredient in: toothpastes, paints, medicines, plastic, paper, cosmetics, sunscreen, chewing gum, breath freshening drops, candy, donut icing, coffee cream, chocolate, skim milk, mayonnaise , dietary supplements (mainly calcium and magnesium), etc.

Diabetes mellitus – a civilization disease of our times

According to the World Health Organization, the number of people with diabetes has quadrupled in the past four decades, affecting approximately 425 million people, with type 2 diabetes accounting for the majority of recorded cases. While obesity and an aging population are still considered the main factors driving the rise in type 2 diabetes cases worldwide, Heller’s research suggests that this popular ingredient that makes many products white may be far more harmful than previously thought. In addition, the increase in its popularity in recent years may have led to an epidemic of type 2 diabetes.

– The increased use of titanium dioxide over the last five decades could have led to an epidemic of type 2 diabetes, said Prof. Heller.

Prof. Heller will gladly repeat the test, but this time using a larger sample. “We have already started a larger study,” he said. “Our work is not over yet,” he added.

Diabetes mellitus is a real scourge in the world. It is estimated that only every twentieth case of the disease is type 1 diabetes, the rest of the case is type 2 diabetes. Unfortunately, every third person in Poland with type 2 diabetes is not diagnosed, and the untreated disease may cause serious complications, including blindness or amputation of the limbs. due to the development of the so-called diabetic foot.

Titanium dioxide is not the only harmful ingredient in toothpaste. Recent research by researchers at the University of Queensland has shown that triclosan is also dangerous, as it may contribute to the development of antibiotic resistance (read: Toothpaste and hand washing gels cause antibiotic resistance)
