Decorating a house for the New Year holidays is a special ritual that fills the heart with a pleasant anticipation. Children should never miss this, so feel free to take them as assistants. Together with them, this activity will turn into a small creative entertainment. After all, it’s so cool to invent and create a festive decor with your own hands! Experts of TM “Soft Sign” share interesting ideas and detailed instructions on their implementation.
Herringbone, fold up!
Paper towels of TM “Soft sign” with proper sleight of hand can be turned into small cute Christmas trees. We cut out a square from a paper towel, fold it in four. We turn the angle to ourselves and begin to bend the free ends to the top, retreating each time by about 1 cm. As a result, you will get several triangles superimposed on each other.
Next, we turn the workpiece with the reverse side. In front of us is a figure with two corners on the sides. We bend them to the middle on top of each other in such a way that we get a figure resembling an ice cream cone. Again, we turn the workpiece to the other side, only now from the bottom up. The figure almost completely resembles the outline of a Christmas tree. It remains to bend the paper tips protruding in the middle inside.
The barrel will serve as a cinnamon stick. To make the Christmas tree look more elegant, we will decorate it with sequins, sequins and beads. Children can complement it with decorative eyes and draw a smile with a marker. Make a loop for a Christmas tree out of tinsel — and you can hang it anywhere. And you can also arrange such decorations at the plates of guests at the table.
Flower fun
You can make an original flower arrangement out of paper towels. The basis for it will be a ball of foam rubber, papier-mache or foam. Stock up with children with superglue, thread, scissors and patience.
We cut paper towels of TM “Soft sign” into identical strips 10-12 cm wide. We fold each strip from the long side into a dense accordion. Holding the middle of the accordion, we tie it with threads and straighten the free ends of the paper in different directions. We will get lush flower buds that resemble chrysanthemums. The more you make such buds, the more beautiful the ball will turn out. This task can just be entrusted to children.
When there are enough flowers, we put them on a spherical base with glue, as close to each other as possible and let them dry completely. Such a flower ball can be additionally decorated with ribbons, bows or petals. Put it in a wide transparent vase with spruce paws and cones on the bottom, place it in the center of the festive table — it will become an interesting accent of the New Year’s serving.
Sparkling snowfall
What is a New Year without homemade snowflakes? All that is needed for their production is well-sharpened scissors and paper napkins of the TM “Soft Sign”. Soft, thin, but quite durable, they are conveniently folded into several layers and cut without much effort. Even a child can cope with this task. Only you will have to strain your memory and remember the ways of cutting snowflakes. For a safety net, look on the Internet and look for detailed schemes there.
Ready-made snowflakes can not only be attached to windows and mirrors throughout the house. Invite the children to connect them together with a stapler in a long chain — you will get an openwork garland that will look spectacular over the table. You can fasten the snowflakes in several rows by assembling an original light canvas. And you can also cut more snowflakes, tie a long white thread to each one and hang it from the ceiling — here’s a real paper snowfall for you. To make it look more festive and elegant, sprinkle each snowflake with hairspray with sequins.
Magic snowmen and turntables
You can make such funny snowmen out of paper towels by building noses, eyes, scarves and hats from improvised materials for them. Or make another spectacular decoration together with the children-turntables made of paper towels. We roll up the paper towel of TM “Soft Sign”as tightly as possible with an accordion. With small thin scissors, we cut through the entire length on one side of the triangles at the same distance from each other. You can make cuts in the form of semicircles or curly fringe. The bottom line is that when we dissolve the accordion, a beautiful through pattern will appear on it.
So, we bend the accordion with cuts in half and glue the sides adjacent to each other together. One segment of the turntable is ready. We will need to make a few more: the more, the more beautiful the turntable will turn out. Also, using glue, we connect them together to get a corrugated “sun”. As a holder, we attach a straw, a wooden skewer or a colored pencil to it. Let the child decorate the turntable with cut-out figures made of colored paper, sequins or bows.
Naughty pompoms
Paper napkins of TM “Soft sign” are perfect for creating lush festive pompoms. Moreover, they are done simply and quickly. We fold the napkin in four and use scissors to cut off the edges beautifully in the form of flower petals. Then we straighten the napkin and fold it with an accordion: the smaller the strip, the more elegant and magnificent the pompom will turn out. We intercept the accordion in the middle with a strong thread and dissolve the edges to get something like a bow tie. We make several more such blanks, fasten them together and properly fluff the free ends in all directions.
The use of such pom-poms can be found very different. Sew a ribbon to the base of the pompom, intercept a cloth napkin with it and put it on a plate for each guest. Children can decorate homemade Christmas cards or gift boxes with such pompoms instead of ready-made bows with ribbons. And you can also add New Year’s boutonnieres with such pompoms.
Here are just a few ideas for a simple and interesting Christmas decor that you can implement together with your children in four hands. For paper towels and napkins of TM “Soft sign” this is far from the limit. Soft, durable and pleasant to the touch texture is easily amenable to any manipulation and takes a variety of forms. Improvise together with little dreamers and create a New Year’s mood with your own hands.
