It’s dangerous: terrible diseases that sex is to blame

Sex is an integral part of our life. However, if hygiene and safety precautions are not followed, intimacy can lead to serious health problems.

So what diseases is sex often to blame for? We immediately remember – venereal. But not only, says Inessa Knysheva, a gynecologist at the Krede Expert clinic. We asked our expert what diseases sex is indirectly to blame for, and now we will tell you.

What diseases can arise from sex?

It should be noted here that they are classified into two types.

The first – diseases caused by various urogenital infections that are sexually transmitted, STD… Almost all of them cause severe inflammation in the vagina, in women, the opening of the urethra opens there, and most often this is accompanied by some kind of urethritis. Some types of infections give rise to infections of the urinary tract, which leads to the development of cystitis. And with illiterate treatment or in its absence, they cause kidney damage – pyelonephritis or glomerulonephritis. These are diseases that result from infection.

The second option is a mechanical group. Few women have the correct post-sex hygiene information. It is very important to empty your bladder before and after intercourse. Because postcoital cystitis occurs quite often. A woman’s urinary tract is short and almost straight, their ascending route of infection is very short and very frequent. Therefore, sex can be the cause of urinary tract diseases. The pH level in the vagina and in the bladder is different. In the process of intercourse, the flora mixes into the vagina and passes through the urinary tract into the bladder, and if after intercourse the woman does not go to the toilet, the bladder becomes inflamed.

How serious can this be and what consequences can it lead to?

When an infection from the bladder enters the vagina, nonspecific vaginitis, bacterial vaginosis appear.

Escherichia coli becomes a common cause, it lives everywhere and, under certain conditions, begins to actively multiply. Basically, it is she who becomes the cause of cystitis in women. Inflammation of the lower urinary tract occurs, respectively, if untreated, inflammation of the upper urinary tract begins. And if a woman leaves this disease without appropriate treatment, it can lead to chronic pyelonephritis, and this is quite serious. The elimination of toxins from the body is impaired and rarely, but it can lead to a rather serious damage to the kidneys, impaired renal function, up to its complete loss.

That is, constant chronic infection with non-native flora or the maintenance of a chronic inflammatory process in the absence of sex hygiene can theoretically lead to the fact that, in the absence of proper attention from the patient or improper treatment, a woman can lose a working kidney.

How to avoid serious consequences?

Initially, it is worth understanding that hygiene must be observed.

  • For a woman who lives with a permanent sexual partner and is not protected, this is the observance of the rules of sex hygiene, respectively.

  • It is important when using different sex techniques – anal or oral – to also observe hygiene so that there is no mixing of flora, which will help to avoid inflammatory processes.

  • During intercourse with an unknown partner, if there is any doubt, barrier contraception is needed – condoms. Anything else does not protect against infection.

  • Let’s not forget about vector-borne infections that are also sexually transmitted: HIV, syphilis, hepatitis, and so on. This is not directly related to urinary tract infection, but secondary damage to these organs always occurs with such diseases.

  • Women and girls with a weak genitourinary system must, in addition to sex hygiene, observe the thermal regime. Do not overcool, do not swim in ponds with cold water.

  • Observing hygiene is not only cleanliness, but also preventive measures that allow you to avoid exacerbation of chronic diseases of the urinary tract or prevent the appearance of new ones. This is still correctly selected linen and food… Fried, smoked, salted are wonderful provocateurs. In combination with intense sex, an inopportunely emptied bladder can result in infection even with its own flora. Therefore, hygiene should be observed both literally and figuratively. This can prevent the development of urinary tract diseases.
