  2. Recently, on the pharmaceutical blog «Mr. Tablet. Treat yourself consciously »there is an entry about panthenol in foam. The expert advises on how to recognize the best product
  3. The pharmacist, Marcin, suggests paying attention to three elements
  4. More current information can be found on the Onet homepage.

Properties of panthenol

Panthenol (also known as D-pantnol, provitamin B5 or pantothenic acid) is a compound known for its moisturizing and regenerative effect on the skin and mucous membranes. The pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries know very well that it soothes irritations, supports the healing of wounds, ulcers, and soothes itching and burning of the skin.

Panthenol is considered a safe substance. It does not cause allergies, so it is used in products for delicate, sensitive, even atopic skin.

A few weeks ago, on the pharmaceutical blog «Pan Tablet. Treat yourself consciously »there is an entry about panthenol in foam. Probably everyone knows this product, and most probably associate it mainly with sunburn. «Panthenol foam – probably the most frequently purchased preparation for sunburn and burns in general. More and more often, however, I hear that instead of helping, it makes matters worse »- writes the author of the blog, pharmacist Marcin. How to recognize good panthenol in foam? The expert gives three elements that are worth paying attention to.

The rest of the article is available under the video.

Check how much panthenol is in panthenol

The first thing to check is the panthenol concentration in the product. It is best if it will be 10 percent. «Content at the level of 5% – I think it is decent »- points out« Mr Tablet ».

What if there is no information on the panthenol content on the packaging? The pharmacist writes directly: “we cancel the product”. This situation allows us to assume that we are dealing with a poor product. The manufacturer would rather boast of a high panthenol content.

Are there other regenerating substances besides panthenol?

In addition to panthenol, other compounds will also bring relief from burns. It is good if the product is enriched with them. Mr. Tablet lists, among others

«Allantoin – like panthenol, it stimulates the regeneration of epidermal cells, as well as moisturizes and smoothes rough and chapped skin

Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice – accelerates the healing of wounds, abrasions and soothes sunburn

Calendula Officinalis (Marigold) Flower Extract (calendula extract – ed.) – soothing, softening, moisturizing

Linum Usitatissimum Seed Oil – linseed oil, which perfectly moisturizes and calms the skin ».

For sunburns and skin irritations of various origins, it is worth using Mediskin Baby Diaper Cream, which is gentle and effective at the same time. The product deeply moisturizes, has anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties.

Preservatives in panthenol in foam

“Let me say right away – preservatives are a necessary evil,” notes Mr. Tablet. The pharmacist explains that “due to the guarantee of microbiological purity in the products, their presence is 90 percent. cases justified and necessary ». However, the selection of these ingredients may differ. What is most important here is “their amount in the product and the ratio of the presence of favorable to unfavorable ingredients”.

At Medonet Market you can buy PanTenol foam – panthenol 10% and allantoin.

Among the “less friendly substances” that can be found in the product (and remember that it is supposed to bring relief to irritated skin), the pharmacist mentions, among others:

«Phenoxyethanol (phenoxyethanol) – in cosmetics it is used as a preservative (max. Concentration 1%).

Parfum, Hexyl Cinnamal (fragrance), Butylphenyl Methylpropional (fragrance) – additional substances that do not have any useful function apart from the smell, and may additionally irritate the skin.

DMDM Hydantoin – a preservative, but also a donor of formaldehyde, i.e. a carcinogenic substance. Moreover, formaldehyde is released depending on temperature – the warmer it is, the easier it is released. So applying it to reddened skin is not a good idea.

Paraffinum Liquidum, Mineral oil – emollients; creates an airtight layer on the surface of the skin, preventing heat exchange ».

Taking the above into account, it is worth checking the product compositions and comparing them.

So that you don’t have to soothe sunburn, it’s best to avoid it. Protect your body by using appropriate sun care products, such as Shaka Sun Stick Sunscreen Cream, available in three fragrances.
