The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has announced that updated versions of the vaccines specifically targeting the Omikron variant are expected to be available in September. These will be preparations by Pfizer and Moderna.
COVID-19 Vaccines. Updated version for Omikron
American experts expect that as soon as vaccines are ready, another round of public immunization will begin. This time, however, patients will receive an injection, the formula of which has been altered to be as effective as possible against the Omikron variant.
It is not known when vaccination with the new preparations in Europe will begin. For this you need the approval of the European Medicines Agency (EMA). However, it can be expected that the Omikron vaccines from Pfizer and Moderna will appear in our country later this year.
Currently, vaccination with the fourth dose of people over 60 and immunocompromised patients over 12 has started in Poland.

Specialists argue not to wait for the vaccines for Omikron and accept the available injections.
– In my opinion, there is no point in waiting for updated vaccines. For one thing, we’re not XNUMX% sure that these current boosters will actually arrive in September. Secondly, there is an increasing group of people who have passed the period of five or six months from the moment of the first booster dose, and therefore their resistance to new sub-variants has significantly decreased and it should be strengthened. Thirdly, we now have an increase in infections in Poland, which will last not known for how long, and also caused by a subvariant that eludes immunity – said in an interview with Medonet Prof. Agnieszka Szuster-Ciesielska from the Department of Virology and Immunology at the Maria Curie-Skłodowska University in Lublin.
