Now those who appear on the beach of the Israeli resort town of Eilat with plastic dishes will have to pay a rather large fine. The city authorities have outlawed disposable tableware in the resort area.
The head of the regional department for environmental protection Asaf Admon said that the campaign “Plastic dishes kills the beaches and the sea” is starting, within the framework of which explanatory work will be carried out with residents and guests of the city.
The authorities are optimistic: “Most Israelis are conscientious, law-abiding people. They will understand everything. And we will get to those who do not want to understand and punish them approximately. It is clear that it will not be possible to achieve change in one day, there is a lot of serious work to be done, ”said using plastic dishes on the beach – even if it is a small spoon – faces a fine of 420 shekels.
By the way, similar restrictions are already in force in many cities around the world. In some places, a complete ban on the sale of plastic plates and glasses has been introduced, and in most resort cities in the United States, it is illegal to enter beaches with disposable tableware.
“Eilat is not only one of the most beautiful cities in the world. It is also a unique ecosystem, ”Mayor Meir Yitzhak Halevi told Ynet. – We must do everything possible to preserve our natural resources. This is important for the residents of the city, and for the 3 million tourists who visit Eilat every year, and for future generations. “
