Dosage

Treatment usually lasts 5–14 days; the drug should be administered for 1-2 days after the symptoms disappear.

Isoprinosine in the form of a syrup

  2. Children after 1 year of age: 50 mg / kg body weight daily in 3-4 divided doses. Dosing schedule depending on the child’s weight: body weight 10-14 kg: 5 ml 3 times a day; body weight 15-20 kg: 5-7,5 ml 3 times a day; body weight 21-30 kg: 7,5-10 ml 3 times a day; body weight 31-40 kg: 10-15 ml 3 times a day; body weight 41-50 kg: 15-17,5 ml 3 times a day.

In all age groups in severe infections (e.g. subacute sclerosing encephalitis in the acute phase of the disease) the dose may be increased to 100 mg / kg body weight daily in divided doses every 4 hours. The maximum dose is 4 g per day.

Isoprinosine in the form of tablets

  1. Adults: 50 mg / kg body weight daily, usually 1 g (2 tablets) 3-4 times a day. Do not use more than 4 g (8 tablets) a day.

Isoprinosine – warnings

  1. During treatment with Isoprinosine for 3 months or longer, uric acid levels in the blood and urine, liver function, blood count and renal function parameters should be regularly monitored.
  2. Patients with hereditary problems of fructose intolerance, glucose-galactose malabsorption or sucrase-isomaltase insufficiency should not take the preparation, because Isoprinosine syrup contains sucrose.

  3. Isoprinosine should not be used while taking immunosuppressive drugs (suppressing the immune system response), such as certain drugs used after organ transplants or to treat atopic dermatitis;
  4. The use of Isoprinosine in parallel with azidothymidine (AZT) enhances the effect of AZT.
