Can vinegar help get rid of head lice? Is vinegar an effective remedy for lice? Will it hurt your hair? What kind of vinegar should I use? The question is answered by the drug. Paweł Żmuda-Trzebiatowski.
Is it worth using vinegar for lice?
Good day. My name is Matthew. I am a lover of the mountains and hitchhiking. However, on the last of my trips, I had an unpleasant surprise. While hiking on the mountain trails, I spent the night mostly in shelters or country houses, far from civilization. Unfortunately, after some time my head started to itch terribly. Since I have long and thick hair, I couldn’t see if there was anything in it. I stayed like that for about 2 weeks and at one point I started combing my hair thoroughly.
It turned out that I found lice in them. I am asking for help on how I can get rid of home remedies. A friend recommended vinegar to me. Is it really vinegar for lice is an effective remedy? I am temporarily far from civilization and often do not have access to a pharmacy. However, I prefer to check and ask if removing lice with vinegar won’t make my hair fall out? I would very much like to lose the hair that I have been growing for over 5 years. I also don’t want to shave to zero right away to get rid of this vermin. If this vinegar is actually a good idea, please indicate how to use it, and what specific vinegar to use (ordinary or apple?). Regards Mateusz.
The doctor advises if the vinegar will help remove the lice
Dear sir, you may try rubbing vinegar on your hair and scalp thoroughly, then put on the shower cap and leave it for an hour. After this time, please wash your hair thoroughly. You can use plain vinegar as well as apple cider vinegar diluted with water in a ratio of 1: 1. The treatment should be repeated until the parasites are gone. The treatment may take up to a week. You should also remember to brush carefully to get rid of dead adults and nits attached to the hair. I warn you right away that it is not so easy to cure head lice, home remedies may not be enough. However, I recommend that you use the medicinal products available in pharmacies. These can be shampoos, lyotons or creams.
In addition to the treatment of head lice, you should remember about proper hygiene and daily washing and ironing of bed linen and clothes. Additionally, I would like to reassure you about cutting your hair. Currently, there is no such need thanks to modern methods of treatment.
Besides using vinegar, for others home remedies for head lice includes the use of olive oil, coconut oil, essential oils including tea and lavender oil. Of course, I am not able to say whether these substances will help in the treatment, but if you do not have access to pharmaceuticals, you can try to use them.
