I remember one time my friends and I went fishing. Well, as usual, we took a couple of bottles of moonshine so that it would not be boring to sit around the fire at night. We drank. And then we got into a heated discussion. There were two topics for discussion: how moonshine differs from vodka, and whether it is produced on an industrial scale.
What is the difference between moonshine and other types of strong alcohol
This question started our discussion. Who asked him, I do not remember. The eldest man from our company, whom we knew as an expert in the field of home-made alcohol, took on the responsibility.
“First of all,” he said, “Moonshine differs from the same vodka in the way it is prepared. Vodka is made on the basis of prepared raw materials, namely potato or grain alcohol purified from impurities with a strength of 95%.
Alcohol is mixed with water, and its strength drops to 40%. Approximately according to the same scheme, other types of strong alcohol are produced, however, certain additives are still allowed in them.
Moonshine, like whiskey, is made by distillation. Because of this, there is a difference not only in taste, but in the composition of the final product.
Note! If you look into history, it turns out that people learned to make moonshine before vodka.
Are there factories producing moonshine
“But it’s interesting, guys,” one of our comrades said dreamily after drinking a glass, “Are there any factories for the production of moonshine anywhere? Or is he being driven only in an artisanal way?
“Are you going to work there, do you want to get a job?” the “expert” replied.
“No, just curious.”
“There are such enterprises, as far as I know. In Belarus, at the Brest distillery “Belalco” they produce moonshine. Even in Bulgaria, the Nordix factory is engaged in this business. Something like this happened in Lithuania.
“Well, what about us?”
“Well, we only produce it clandestinely for the time being.”
What brands of moonshine can be bought at the alcohol market
The expert was already surrounded by all the fishermen. Is it a joke! It turns out that moonshine is produced in factories. No one wanted to miss a single word of the old man. Everyone was just wondering what he would say next.
Someone timidly asked: “Well, can you name any specific brands, from those that you can buy in a store?”
“Easy!” our expert answered. “Well, listen. The most famous brand of factory moonshine is Kosogorov Moonshine No. 2. The price for half a liter is 450 rubles. Oddly enough, the brand is Russian, although it is produced in Bulgaria.
Something went wrong with their documents when they decided to open a plant, so instead of Russia, moonshine began to be produced abroad. Strange somehow, of course, but not the point. It is prepared in the traditional way from wheat alcohol, which is obtained by double purification.
It tastes pleasant, somewhat reminiscent of kvass. Well, there are bread and yeast notes in the smell.
There is also Good Farmer. This one is produced in Belarus, in Brest. Production is controlled by Russian Original Drinks. The price for half a liter is 520 rubles. A little sweet, with a slight wheat aftertaste.
“Village moonshine”. They are produced in Lithuania, but, please pay attention, under the control of a Russian company. The price for half a liter is already 820 rubles, but it’s worth it. On the palate, there are notes of Borodino bread, cumin and coriander.
“Sibbiter”. This one is also produced in Belarus and again under the control of a Russian company. The price for half a liter is 400 rubles. It has a delicate bread aroma and the same taste.
Note! In addition to Belarus and Bulgaria, moonshine is produced by enterprises in Estonia and America.
Which moonshine is better home or store
“You see everything that burns, you tried it,” one of ours said quietly, after the expert finished the story, “But still, which moonshine is better in the end? Shop or your own, home?
The question is complex and ambiguous. Store-bought is prepared in compliance with all technologies and GOSTs, respectively, it has both a color and a smell better than homemade, and there will be less chance of poisoning them.
Note! The answer to the question of which moonshine is better, each person gives for himself based on personal preferences, including financial ones.
On the other hand, when you make homemade moonshine, you use natural products, and, of course, you know what you put there. And no one has yet canceled improvisation. Sometimes at home you can make such a quality thing that you can’t buy it in a store for any money.
In terms of accessibility, of course, homemade moonshine is in the lead. Factory now rarely where you can buy. Yes, and it comes out more expensive than homemade.
In general, the last question we have remained unanswered. We still could not decide for ourselves which moonshine is better – homemade or store-bought. What do you think?
