Good day. My name is Agata, I am 5 months pregnant. About 3 months ago, I noticed my urine started to stink. When my husband uses the toilet right after me, he never pays attention to me. Still, I can’t help but feel that urine smell it has become more intense than before I got pregnant. By the way, I will add that I am pregnant for the first time. I would like some advice, why does urine smell?
Could this be due to the meals I eat on a daily basis? Sometimes I combine really different dishes together. I can eat a big piece of cake and then eat some salty snacks. My sister told me that many pregnant women complain about smelly urine and that it is normal in this state. However, it seems to me that in my case this smell is extremely intense, or I am too sensitive about it.
Either way or urine odor may be a harbinger of some disease? My greatest fear is for a baby. I would not like to see a premature birth. Regards.
The doctor explains what smelly urine may indicate in pregnancy
The only change in a pregnant woman’s body is not an increase in the circumference of the abdomen. During these nine months, many changes take place in the pregnant woman’s body, including changes in the smell of urine or the perception of it.

Remember not to take all supplements during pregnancy, especially vitamin A and fish oil, but also all multivitamin mixtures not intended for pregnant women. It should be remembered how important a diet is during pregnancy, it is not necessarily appropriate to eat whatever you want. The diet during pregnancy should be a healthy diet, rich in vegetables and fruits, multigrain products and vegetable fats.
But foul-smelling urine it can also be caused by urinary tract infections, usually with symptoms such as burning during micturition, pollakiuria, fever or lower abdominal pain. However, the presence of these symptoms is not essential, an asymptomatic infection is possible, which should also be treated during pregnancy. Vaginal infections can also cause foul-smelling urine, if you suspect them (especially if there is a fishy smell of vaginal discharge) see your Obstetrician as soon as possible to prescribe treatment or review a home diagnosis.
In order to prevent the occurrence of fetid urine, drink plenty of water, a minimum of 2 liters of fluid a day, and preferably even more, maintain hygiene of intimate parts, urinate frequently, preferably as soon as you feel the pressure on the bladder. It is recommended to visit the doctor who conducts pregnancy regularly, perform the prescribed tests and take the prescribed medications and supplements.
