Which red meat is it?

Red meat, which includes, among others. beef, pork and lamb are eaten in many forms: burgers, steaks, cutlets and cold cuts. Of course, the worst are those with artificial additives, but any type of red meat should be limited. Why?

Does red meat increase cancer risk?

There is evidence that people who can’t say no to red meat have an increased risk of developing it colorectal cancer. It is about people with a genetic predisposition to this disease.

A large study of over 90 women published in the Archives of Internal Medicine found that a diet high in red meat increases the risk of developing breast cancer. Women who ate more than about 170 g (1,5 servings) of red meat a day had an almost double risk of developing hormone-sensitive breast cancer compared with women who ate three or less servings of red meat a week. Scientists believe that the hormones and hormone-like compounds in red meat are to blame.

Research shows that people who eat a lot of red meat consume less plant-based foods, depriving themselves of its protective effects.

According to a study published in the journal Nature Medicine, more frequent consumption of red meat is associated with a higher risk cardiovascular diseases.

Is red meat harmful?

A study from the Harvard School of Public Health found a link between higher red meat consumption and shortened life expectancy. Introducing ‘healthier’ protein sources such as fish, poultry, nuts, and legumes into the diet was associated with a lower risk of death.

A diet rich in animal products contributes to increased incidence obesity and type 2 diabetes. According to a report published by JAMA Internal Medicine, eating red, processed meat can increase the risk of developing type 2 diabetes over time. As little as 100 grams of red meat a day led to a 19% increase in risk. 

How Much Red Meat Can You Eat In A Week?

The thought arises in your head: what to eat if everything is harmful? You can eat everything in moderation and of good quality. According to the Americam Institute for Cancer Research, we can eat until half a kilo of red meat per week without increasing the risk of cancer. Of course, it should be meat without unnecessary additives and improvers, preferably boiled or stewed.
