What fats are in lard?
Lard consists largely of saturated fat. These May high smoke point and are stable during frying. It has its undoubted advantages. Lard is a rich source of Vitamin D. A teaspoon of lard may contain 500-1000 IU (international unit). It is important, however, that such vitamin D content is present only in lard, which comes from pigs that have access to sunlight. It is necessary for the production of vitamin D in their body. Is lard healthy?
Lard is an animal fat. So it includes in its composition cholesterol. For years, studies have shown its influence on the increased risk of cardiovascular diseases. Yes, it is necessary for the body to produce many hormones or the functioning of the nervous system, but this does not mean that we are to eat it without inhibitions. However, children under the age of 3 are not advised to limit the supply of saturated fat and cholesterol. These ingredients are essential for the development of the body. Its excess, however, is harmful. So, does lard only have a negative effect on the circulatory system? It is the source monounsaturated fatty acids and omega 3which have a protective effect on the heart. Its moderate consumption may therefore show some health benefits. A study from the University of Cinncinati indicates that a short-term lard-rich diet may protect against heart attacks and reduce tissue damage when it occurs. In the same study, however, researchers found that following such a diet for more than 6 weeks no longer showed any protective effect.
Is goose lard healthy?
Goose meat is rich in protein, iron, zinc and a number of vitamins such as A, B1, B2, D and E. Goose lard is rich in monounsaturated fats. Like olive oil, it is a source of oleic acid. Its advantages have been used for centuries both in the kitchen and externally to prepare various spreads and health ointments, e.g. with castor oil.
