Many couples, especially those who are just starting their adventure with sex, wonder if vaginal ejaculation is the only way to fertilize. This can lead to serious doubts that can take away the urge to mate. It is difficult to enjoy sex without being sure whether a given practice will lead to an unwanted pregnancy. Therefore, today we explain under what circumstances it is possible to get pregnant without ejaculating, and what the risks are.

What determines whether fertilization occurs?

Recall: fertilization occurs when the sperm reaches the egg in the fallopian tube. For this to happen, however, a number of conditions must be met. First of all, a woman must be ovulating, i.e. have the so-called fertile days. Sometimes it’s just one day of the cycle! Although the menstrual cycle is regular, it is disturbed by many external factors such as stress, illnesses, fatigue and others. The ability to accurately calculate the phase of the menstrual cycle is therefore very limited.

Moreover, the mere willingness of a woman to get fertilized is not enough. Sperm has yet to get into the fallopian tube, which is also not easy. The vagina has a pH that kills sperm, and the fallopian tube is quite deep, so there must be a lot of sperm, it must ejaculate under high pressure, and also be of good quality, i.e. contain a lot of strong and mobile sperm.

Is pregnancy without ejaculation possible?

Does all of this mean that you cannot get pregnant without ejaculating in your vagina? Not completely. It is believed that there is a chance that semen could enter a woman’s genital tract even if she ejaculated elsewhere. For example, intermittent intercourse may involve a situation where the sperm ends up on the outside of the female genitalia. The probability of it reaching the fallopian tube from there is very low, but not zero. Theoretically, it is even conceivable that after ejaculation as a result of anal sex, semen flows from the anus into the vagina.

It is also worth remembering that semen in a woman’s genital tract may retain its properties for up to 72 hours after intercourse. This means that having sex up to three days before ovulation can also make you pregnant.

Some young people assume that the hymen is an impassable barrier for semen. Nothing could be further from the truth – in fact, it has quite a porous structure, after all, monthly blood seeps through it. Theoretically, therefore, sex without penetration that ends with ejaculation does not exclude the possibility of fertilization.

Petting and pregnancy

Petting, or stimulating the genitals with the hand, is a form of sexual activity most often chosen as a foreplay or a substitute for full intercourse for people who do not want to opt for full penetration. Theoretically, it may happen that after ejaculation as a result of petting, sperm enters the vagina, for example, on a man’s hand or on bedding. In practice, however, this is extremely unlikely, as sperm die extremely quickly in contact with air and at room temperature.

Pre-ejaculation, or facts and myths about pregnancy without ejaculation

The most doubts as to whether it is really possible to get pregnant without ejaculating either in the vagina or anywhere else is raised by pre-ejaculate, that is, the mucilaginous substance released from the penis when excited, serving as a natural lubricant. It is impossible to stop its secretion, and the volume of pre-ejaculate depends on the degree of excitement and the individual predispositions of the man. There are studies to suggest that pre-ejaculate contains sperm. Usually they are few and weak, but it is not XNUMX% certain that they cannot fertilize.

Wnioski

Of course, the only one hundred percent reliable method of contraception is sexual abstinence, which is simply to refrain from having sex. However, since this is not always the best option, or even the best option, couples who wish to avoid an unplanned pregnancy should try to reduce the likelihood of conception. The above information certainly shows that interrupted intercourse is a highly uncertain method of pregnancy prevention, which is confirmed by scientific research. It is worth realizing that in addition to the above-mentioned unique possibilities of fertilization, spontaneous ejaculation often occurs when a man simply fails to pull his penis out of the vagina in time. It also cannot be denied that the stress associated with the uncertainty of this method can effectively reduce satisfaction with sex and cause stress and dissatisfaction for both partners.
