Is it possible for children to have tea, at what age should a child be given green, black
Tea is a common drink that contains both beneficial and harmful substances. It has various effects on the child’s body. Whether it is possible for children to have tea depends on its type and the age group of babies.
At what age to give a child tea for children
In order not to harm the baby’s health, pediatricians recommend introducing tea into his diet at six months, if the baby is breastfed. If the child eats artificial mixtures, then complementary foods can be started at 4-5 months.
Babies should be given special teas, without caffeine, harmful or appetite-reducing substances. Children can enjoy the following drinks:
- Starting from six months, offer your baby special herbal teas. The most useful are drinks based on chamomile, fennel, mint, lemon balm. They have medicinal properties, serve as sedatives, have an antiseptic effect, facilitate sputum discharge, and normalize digestion.
- From 1 to 3 years old, children can drink vitamin, fruit and berry drinks. They are able to strengthen the immune system, saturate the body with vitamins and increase appetite. Drinks based on rosehip, linden, apple, apricot, currant and raspberry will be of great benefit for the baby.
These tasty, aromatic teas are safe for the growing body. Tea should be served warm, at least an hour before bedtime. It is better to buy drinks in children’s stores or in a pharmacy, after consulting a pediatrician.
When to drink black and green tea
These types cannot be offered to children under 3 years of age. They are high in caffeine and other substances that can trigger insomnia and anxiety. They can be given once a day with breakfast as they have an invigorating effect. The tea should be warm and weak, light brown in color.
When choosing black tea for a children’s diet, give preference to the leafy look.
Most pediatricians advise against giving green tea until age 12. This is due to the fact that the leaves undergo minimal processing, and the drink contains a large amount of caffeine, tannin and thein. These substances have both positive and negative properties. Tannin can lead to a decrease in hemoglobin in the blood and provoke anemia, and thein excites the nervous system, inhibits the formation of vitamin D and leads to rickets.
Give children only freshly brewed tea drinks, taking into account the age of the baby and the recommendations of specialists.
