Are insects and larvae healthy?

First of all, they are invertebrates these are just healthy. They contain high-quality protein, little fat and many minerals such as zinc, calcium and iron. In addition, their production is ecological. Huge amounts of gas are produced by raising cattle and pigs greenhouse, leading to global warming. When we would breed invertebrates, we would use approx. 10 times less energy. Exactly that that is why environmentalists are calling for a diet change and a reduction in its consumption meat for insects and larvae.                                 

Which insects are edible?

It is reported that the world there are about 2000 species of invertebrates that can be consumed without any risk. In addition, there is a special scientific discipline that checks which insects are useful for consumption. Thanks to this science, the list can go on even more.

However, it is enough now impressive that there is a lot to choose from. To the most popular edible insects and larvae include grasshoppers, ants, crickets, caterpillars and larvae beetle. Where do people eat insects and larvae?

It turns out that we are in minority when it comes to our attitude towards eating invertebrates because they eat them already about 80% of people around the world. They are mainly inhabitants of Asia and America South and Africa. But they are also eaten more and more in the USA, where one of the The companies produce sweets and salty snacks with insects, e.g. sunken lollipops crickets. There is also a thriving company (Bugs Originals) in the Netherlands processed insects, incl. frozen larvae or worm flour.

Can you eat insects and larvae in Poland?

Unfortunately, even if the food insects and larvae will convince you, you will not be able to taste them so easily in Poland. Sanepid does not provide for the possibility of eating these invertebrates by people and therefore does not allow the opening of restaurants where you can taste these delicacies. At this point you may ask: How is that? After all in Poland there used to be such a restaurant. And quite recently. She was called What is it. Unfortunately was closed last year. Now, quite recently, she has tried to open a new restaurant in Łódź insect, but she did not get permission from the Department of Health. After all, it happens that you can find a restaurant where they offer such delicacies, but usually only on a special order. So it turns out if we want to try insects and larvae, we must first search for them for a long time or catch them and prepare them ourselves. Or are we ready for it?

Since 2 billion people worldwide consider invertebrates a delicacy, and environmentalists say that by eating insects and larvae, we can save ours planet, then maybe it’s worth breaking through and trying them sometime? 🙂
