Is the constant sucking feeling in your stomach cause for concern?

Hello. My name is Anna and I am currently 34 years old. I lead a relatively healthy lifestyle, I have never had any major health problems. For some time, however, I have been tired of the constant a feeling of sucking in the stomach. I am sure that the suction in the stomach is not due to hunger, because sometimes it occurs even a few or several minutes after a meal. In addition, I haven’t changed my diet recently, and the recurring sucking in the stomach appeared quite suddenly. Is constant sucking in the stomach normal?

I’ve never felt anything like this, unless I was really very hungry. Now I feel the sucking in my stomach almost every day. At first I thought it was an increased appetite, but even if I eat another meal, the stomach suction comes back and I feel worse because of feeling of heaviness in the intestines. I do not know at all what the reasons for stomach suction may be or why it is because I do not see other disturbing symptoms in myself. Could the constant sucking in the stomach be the result of some food allergies or other digestive problems? What should I do?

The doctor explains the causes of suction in the stomach

Sucking in the stomach is a feeling associated with hunger, with insufficient amounts of food, calories, and micro and macro elements. It is accompanied by the feeling of an empty, empty stomach.

For appearing feelings of hunger ghrelin is responsible. Ghrelin is a peptide hormone that is released by starvation from stomach cells into blood vessels. Reaching the Central Nervous System, and more specifically the arcuate nucleus of the hypothalamus, ghrelin binds to the receptors and informs about the need to deliver food to the body. This stimulates the stomach to produce more stomach acid, which can make the stomach feel like it.

Also, depending on the quality and value of the food we eat, you may or may not feel hungry after a meal. First of all, foods rich in large amounts of simple sugars have a negative effect. The feeling of sucking in the stomach may also be a symptom of lack of sleep or neurotic disorders.

If stomach suction is rare, occasional it is likely to go away on its own over time. However, if the symptom appears regularly or with increasing frequency, you should visit a doctor, preferably primary care. He will be able to get a detailed history of gastric suction, from what time and under what circumstances it occurs, and whether it is accompanied by other symptoms. The doctor will also be able to conduct a detailed interview regarding acquired and chronic diseases, hospitalizations and operations, medications taken, and family medical history.

He will be able to perform a thorough physical examination and order additional laboratory, microbiological, endoscopic or radiological tests if he deems it appropriate. The family doctor will also be able to order consultations with a doctor of a different specialization, depending on the interview and presented deviations in the physical examination. You should visit your doctor if you experience symptoms such as: constipation, diarrhea, nausea and vomiting, shortness of breath, dizziness, headache, large changes in body weight, sleep problems, weakness.
