What is the origin of cauliflower?

Cauliflower belongs to the cabbage family and is grown all over Poland. It is planted in spring, and you can enjoy the young vegetable for summer. Cauliflower comes from the Middle East, it came to Europe in the XNUMXth century. It was probably brought to Poland by Bona Sforza. Interestingly, it is considered a mutant of broccoli or head cabbage.

Is cauliflower healthy?

Cauliflower is not only a taste, but also has a beneficial effect on health. It contains the most vitamins and minerals of all brassicas:

  • It is a source of many vitamins: vit. Ah, wit. C, vit. E, wit. B1, wit. B2
  • Contains: Calcium, Phosphorus, Iron, Magnesium
  • It consists of sulforanwhich stimulates cancer-fighting enzymes

How do I know if my cauliflower is rotten?

It is very easy to distinguish stale cauliflower, it is characterized by brown discoloration, stains and bruises. Leaves are bright yellow, lacking firmness. In order for the cauliflower to remain fresh for as long as possible, the leaves should be removed and the florets should be kept refrigerated (preferably no longer than 7 days). Frozen cauliflower can be stored for up to several months.

Important: The more relaxed the cauliflower rose, the less fresh the vegetable is!

How to make cauliflower?

Cauliflower is a very graceful vegetable. It can be prepared in many ways:

  • Soup (alone and with the addition of other vegetables)
  • Salads and salads (raw and cooked)
  • Meat stuffing
  • Separately – cooked aldente with melted butter or white sauce (you can also sprinkle with fried breadcrumbs)

It is best to cook cauliflower shortly, then we keep its many nutritional values ​​and minimize the unpleasant smell. The addition of lemon juice prevents discoloration of the roses.

Recipe for a cauliflower casserole

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup of any pasta
  • 1/2 cauliflower
  • 2 tablespoon of butter
  • 2 tablespoons of wheat flour
  • 1 cup of milk
  • 70 g cheese, grated

Manufacturing method:

  1. Boil the pasta in salted water.
  2. Boil the cauliflower for about 3 minutes.
  3. Put the drained pasta and cauliflower in an ovenproof dish
  4. Fry the flour in butter for about 3 minutes, gradually add the milk while stirring, and finally add the grated cheese – a thick sauce will form.
  5. Pour the sauce over the contents of the dish.
  6. Bake in an oven preheated to 200 degrees C for about 15 minutes.
