Should you be concerned about an umbilical hernia in pregnancy? Is this a cause for concern? How should I deal with an umbilical hernia? Can it pose a threat to the child? Does an umbilical hernia prevent natural childbirth? The question is answered by the drug. Anna Mitschke.
Should you be concerned about an umbilical hernia in pregnancy?
Hello and welcome. I am currently in my first pregnancy – in the fourth month. A few days ago it turned out that I have an umbilical hernia. To be honest, it surprised me a bit, because the doctor says it is a result of a congenital defect, and Umbilical hernia in pregnancy it just came out and will not be treated in any particular way for the time being. The doctor does not see a major problem here, but I am not sure if the umbilical hernia in pregnancy is dangerous and should I really panic? At the moment, the hernia doesn’t necessarily bother me.
The only thing that worries me is the way treatment of umbilical hernia in pregnancythat the doctor suggested to me. I just have to lie down a lot, not overwork and not lift heavy things. However, I wonder if an umbilical hernia in pregnancy requires other treatment? And most importantly – can it be dangerous for me or for the child? I also heard that an umbilical hernia in pregnancy is an indication for a cesarean section. I wanted to give birth naturally all the time, but is it true that as a result of an umbilical hernia it will be impossible?
The doctor explains the dangers of an umbilical hernia in pregnancy
Umbilical hernia is a common condition that occurs in women. An abdominal hernia is a bump visible on the body caused by the movement of abdominal organs or parts of them under the skin. Certain circumstances will predispose you to appear umbilical hernia in adults. These are the states in which we observe an increase in intra-abdominal pressure and a weakening of the abdominal integuments. Here you can list pregnancy, obesity, chronic constipation, chronic cough, lifting heavy objects, or develop after surgery.
There are also certain predispositions genetically. An inguinal hernia may develop as a congenital defect, but it may also appear in adulthood. It appears after birth due to the non-fusion of the umbilical ring. Often in infants it disappears on its own as the umbilical ring closes over time. They are common in premature babies. We divide hernias into removable and non-removable hernias.
We can easily move this first hernia back into the abdominal cavity by pressing the hand. Umbilical hernia is usually asymptomatic and does not cause pain. A different situation is when the hernia is trapped, in which the hernia cannot be removed. This is an acute complication of an abdominal hernia and is at risk intestinal necrosis.
Therefore, in the event of acute abdominal pain, urgent medical attention should be sought. Surgery is the treatment procedure in the case of umbilical hernia. If possible, if the situation does not require it, the procedure is postponed during pregnancy until after delivery. The presence of an umbilical hernia alone is not an indication for cesarean delivery. Nevertheless, each case must be considered individually. In the event of unpleasant symptoms, please consult your pregnancy doctor.
