The latest study, which is believed to be the first to focus solely on this issue, has used genetic mutations to analyze the effects of moderate alcohol consumption during pregnancy (1-6 units per week) among a large group of women. Studies have shown that the IQ of children who drink moderately in women was lower on average by 2 points compared to the offspring of abstinent women. The gene variations that are responsible for the action of these enzymes lead to variations in the rate at which alcohol is metabolized. The rapid conversion of ethanol in a woman’s body is believed to protect the fetus from developmental abnormalities as less alcohol enters the fetus, but the exact mechanism of this process is as yet unclear. Earlier studies have relied on the evidence observed, but this has caused some problems. Observational studies have shown that drinking alcohol in moderation is preferable to complete abstinence. This is because women who consciously regulate the amount of alcohol they drink are usually L.more educated, eat a balanced diet and smoke less often – all these factors contribute to increasing the child’s IQ in the future and mask the negative effects of alcohol. The last study was done using an innovative technique known as Mendel’s randomization, which is the most scientifically effective method of tracking the relationship between the influence of alcohol and subsequent ailments.
