Can scratching a mole be dangerous? Should I see a doctor? How should you deal with a scratched mole? Can a scratched mole get angry? The question is answered by the drug. Paweł Żmuda-Trzebiatowski.
Can a scratched mole be dangerous?
Hello. I am 23 years old and have a problem that appeared recently. In the area of the right breast I have a birthmark that does not change its shape, does not enlarge, no discharge seeps from it, but because it is located in the place where the bra cup is, the material often irritates it and just a few days ago the mole was damaged, specifically scratched.
Is a scratched mole dangerous? What should I do? The scratched mole started to bleed slightly, I covered it with a thin plaster, because I’m afraid that the material will still offend me. Should I see a doctor, if so what, general practitioner or surgeon? Maybe I should wait for the mole to stop bleeding. A friend advised me to disinfect the injured birthmark with alcohol, but I do not know if it is a good idea, maybe it is better to make a chamomile poultice.
I have no other birthmarks, it happens only sporadically in my family, what should I do? Can a scratched mole be a threat to me, I read somewhere that it can get angry, is it true? Please reply.
The doctor advises what to do if the mole is scratched
Madam, melanocytic nevi, the so-called moles, are benign skin neoplasms with a low potential to be transformed into melanoma, a malignant tumor of pigment cells. Each mechanical damage of such a mark increases risk of developing melanoma, due to the following division of pigment cells during regeneration. In the case of damage to the birthmark, the wound should be washed and then disinfected.
Each birthmark, even those that are not damaged, should be monitored. It is recommended to visit a dermatologist at least once a year. If the birthmark is in a place exposed to constant abrasions, as in your case, it is recommended to remove it.
Each lesion removed from our body must undergo a histopathological examination by a pathologist. Only after microscopic examination can the presence of melanoma be 100% confirmed or excluded. I suggest that you visit your family doctor who will refer you to a surgical clinic.
- Removal of moles – when is it worth going to the procedure?
The lesion is excised on an outpatient basisso there is no need for you to stay in the hospital for a long time. The histopathological result will be available after about two weeks. If there is a high probability of melanoma, your doctor may recommend an accelerated examination. Summing up, the chance of developing melanoma in a damaged nevus is not high, although such moles require excision.
