Is the pre-period headache a cause for concern? Could it be a symptom of some diseases? Is pre period headache normal? Is it worth going to the doctor? Could a pre-period headache indicate any other problems? The question is answered by the drug. Anna Mitschke.
Is the pre-period headache a cause for concern?
Hello and welcome. I have a question, but I don’t know who to address it to. It is about the symptoms that appear in me before my period, namely about headache before period. I don’t normally complain of a headache and I never actually have problems with it. The exceptions are really extreme situations, when I do not sleep through the night or come back after a particularly long journey, but I blame this on fatigue. Recently, however, I have begun to notice that I have a pre-period headache almost every month.
In the past, I did not have such symptoms, because my period is not painful at all, and PMS is also mild. The only exception is the headache before the period, which occurs about 2 days before it and often lasts all day. It is not a severe pain, but it worries me nonetheless. Is a pre-period headache normal? Or should I be concerned about such a situation, since until recently I had no headache before my period. I would be grateful for a hint whether such a symptom may indicate any problems or should I not worry too much about it.
Your doctor explains the causes of your headache before your period
Headache in a woman before menstruation may be a component of the premenstrual syndrome. The definition of PMS assumes that these are recurrent mental and somatic symptoms that occur during the luteal phase of the menstrual cycle. These symptoms disappear with the onset of menstrual bleeding. This is a fairly common problem that occurs in women. The reason is the changes in the hormonal economy taking place in a woman’s monthly cycle.
The severity of symptoms is important. Are the pain so bothersome that they prevent proper functioning? Severe and persistent symptoms are an indication for treatment. Symptoms that can occur in premenstrual syndrome they are very different and uncharacteristic. Some women may only develop mental symptoms, such as depression, mood disorders, anxiety disorders, irritability. Others develop somatic symptoms such as headache, tenderness, breast swelling, flatulence, abdominal pain, problems with defecation.
There may also be mental and somatic symptoms. There may be problems with concentration, weakness, sleep disturbances, decreased appetite. All these symptoms significantly impair the patient’s daily life. Migraine should be considered in differentiating headache. In women suffering from migraine headaches severe headache pain is often noted in the perimenstrual period. Additionally, headaches during this period are usually more intense. This is especially true migraines without aura.
When diagnosing headaches, you should also think about tension headaches, which are very common. Headaches can result from many reasons, including cancer and vascular diseases. I propose to visit a gynecologist who will review the entire clinical picture and suggest further treatment.
