Can a lump in the groin be serious? Why do such changes appear in the groin? Could a lump in the groin turn out to be a hernia? What diagnostic tests should be performed? The question is answered by the drug. Paweł Żmuda-Trzebiatowski.
Can a lump in the groin be serious?
Hello. I am 29 years old and I would like to know about possible reasons for my appearance a lump in the groin. A few days ago, while taking a bath, I noticed a small amount a lump in the femoral groinIt’s not big, maybe one and a half centimeters, I don’t feel any pain, I have the impression that the lump is soft and it is escaping from under my fingers. Is a lump in the groin dangerous? I have never had this kind of problem, no changes, no such cases in my immediate family, so I wonder where the lump in the groin might have come from.
I will add, because maybe it matters that I have been training weightlifting as an amateur for several months, is it possible that this lump in the groin is a hernia? Should I do any specialized tests, for example X-ray? Is it better to go to a doctor who will write a referral? I am starting to worry because the lump in my groin does not hurt me, but I feel a little uncomfortable with my daily activities. I also wonder if even a small lump in the groin may be a contraindication to continuing training. Please give me a hint as to what could be causing the change in the groin and what to do.
The doctor explains the reasons for the appearance of a lump in the groin
Madam, very often with soft, a sliding lump in the groin there is an enlarged lymph node. And as you know, there can be many reasons for enlargement of the lymph nodes. Firstly, they may be infections within the genital area, including venereal diseases or local skin infections resulting from, among others, mechanical trauma caused during epilation. In the differentiation of the causes of enlarged lymph nodes (lymphadenopathy), neoplastic diseases, including lymphomas and leukemias, should also be considered, although they are not the most common causes of enlarged lymph nodes.
There are also situations (and not infrequently) when it is not possible to diagnose causes of lymphadenopathy in the inguinal region. In addition to enlarged lymph nodes, an inguinal hernia may be a palpable lump in the groin. As in the case of enlarged nodes, such a lump is soft, painless and small (especially at the very beginning, as it may grow later). Lifting weights may predispose to the development of a hernia due to the increase in pressure in the abdominal cavity during exercise, especially if there is abdominal wall muscle weakness.
I suggest that you go to your GP. After the initial physical examination, the doctor will recommend further diagnostics. It is definitely worth performing laboratory tests, including peripheral blood counts and the level of CRP protein. In addition, it would be good to do an ultrasound of the abdominal cavity and groin. If there are indications for this, you will be referred to the appropriate socialist.
