Irresistible Mickey Rourke: an obituary about his bygone beauty

Handsome Mickey Rourke was the shining star of the 90s, the idol of women who adored and loved him. Not offended by Mickey’s talent, perhaps, would have gone down in the history of world cinema.

But he limited himself, however, to the brilliant role of the vicious and charming John Gray in the film Nine and a Half Weeks by Adrian Lyne. We still keep this image in the memory of Rourke’s admirers as evidence of his acting skills, which were not revealed to the end. Fate must have played a trick on him at some point: first – fame, fame, and then, for a while, complete creative oblivion. Although Mickey Rourke could, putting aside screen acting, prove himself in a different guise.

For example, he wrote an excellent script for the future film “Bullet”, in which he later convincingly played the main role. Probably, everything was ruined by his irrepressible passion for changes in life, the pursuit of thrills and Mickey Rourke’s natural stubbornness, sometimes reaching the point of absurdity. On the creative takeoff of his career, he makes an unexpected decision – to return to the professional ring in order to win the laurels of an invincible champion. The second Ali did not work out of him. Boyish passion for this sport, as we know from his biography, once almost grew into the main business of life.

It can be stated with bitterness that four years spent in the professional ring did not bring Rourke the proper satisfaction. Even the million dollar fee for several fights was little consolation for the ambitious Mickey. But the damage to health was colossal! Broken arms, four concussions, a broken nose – it’s just painful to list the injuries he received in the cruel ring. Although Mickey Rourke still loves boxing and does not miss any significant competition, the return to cinema was painful and difficult. Nevertheless, he managed to accomplish a kind of creative feat: Rourke starred in a number of good films. But a badly beaten face, damaged by missed punches in the ring, said that cardinal changes were needed.

And Mickey, naturally, went to extreme measures: he went under the knife of a plastic surgeon. The first operation (it happened in 2008) was unsuccessful, the subsequent ones also did not bring relief to Mickey Rourke. The new appearance of the Hollywood actor seemed to mock the handsome man from the 90s and resembled a lifeless mask. Perhaps such an unexpected transformation of an attractive once man into a certain Quasimodo hit Mickey’s psyche.

To fill this “gap”, he began to look younger and look for ways to be original and catchy in public. And I didn’t find anything better how, for example, to repaint, let go of the mustache, and flaunt in cycling shorts. It was, to put it mildly, a pitiful sight when a Hollywood actor, who has lost his identity, is trying to return to the past, a vivid image.
