I am asking for advice, I am 27 years old and married. Next year, my husband and I are planning to start trying for a baby.
I am very scared because my periods are very irregular. It even happens that the period occurs every 2-3 months. I know that I need to regulate my periods before trying for a baby. I wonder, however, what could be the reason for this, what tests should I do. ~ irregular27
Hormonal disorders are the most common cause of irregular periods. For this purpose, blood should be taken for tests, especially for prolactin, using the Metoclopramide test. The test consists of taking a blood sample, then taking a metoclopramide tablet and drawing the blood again one hour after taking it. The test is interpreted by a doctor. It is also good to take hormonal tests that assess the thyroid gland. Most often it turns out that the test with Metoclopramide is abnormal and then simple treatment with drugs blocking the secretion of prolactin restores regular menstrual cycles after some time. Remember that irregular periods are only a symptom. It may accompany anovulatory cycles which may also be associated with hyperprolactinemia. Then, of course, planning a pregnancy is out of the question. Ovulation must be restored first.
