People suffering from anemia should pay special attention to their daily diet. Also, people with suspected anemia should choose a diet more suited to their health condition. Prevention of anemia also requires the use of products rich in iron – this is what prevents the disease.
Anemia – a disease of the blood
Anemia is also called anemia. The disease manifests itself in a whole set of symptoms, but the most visible of them is too low content of erythrocytes and hemoglobin in the blood. This is what causes the later symptoms and those visible to the naked eye.
Different types of anemia should also be distinguished, since at least a dozen of them are listed. One of them is iron deficiency anemia, also known as microcytic anemia. Women are more often affected, which can be brought to the disease by, among other things, repeated increased menstrual bleeding. However, this anemia also arises as a result of a poor diet, inadequate nutrition on a daily basis or due to other heavy bleeding.
Symptoms of anemia due to iron deficiency
The disease is best recognized by the pallor of the patient’s skin. Conjunctivae are also pale. There is a “strange” appetite for the patient himself, e.g. for chalk. The skin is rough, and the hair and nails are easily broken and damaged. The patient is often weak and sleeps above the norm, but does not feel rested after waking up.
Iron-rich diet – what is it?
- Red meat contains the most absorbable iron for humans
- Liver is a very good source of iron, which is also very well absorbed by humans
- You should also eat foods rich in vitamin C, E, B6, B12 and folic acid. Only thanks to this, the body will be able to absorb the right amounts of iron, and blood results will improve at a faster pace. Otherwise, changing the diet itself, which will be focused only on the intake of larger amounts of iron, may not bring good results. It is also worth adding products such as peppers, tomatoes, eggs or spinach to your diet – they also contain, among others, zinc, molybdenum or copper, compounds necessary to increase hemoglobin in the blood
- It is also worth eating a lot of fruits and vegetables in such a diet. Unfortunately, an iron-rich diet can cause constipation. However, the fiber contained in vegetables and fruits will balance the state of the body and prevent such side effects
- It is also worth consuming ready-made dietary supplements available, for example, in pharmacies. These can be products in the form of tablets that contain iron
