Iporel is a medicine that contains clonidine hydrochloride and is used to lower blood pressure.

What is the composition and action of Iporel?

The active substance in Iporel is clonidine hydrochloride. This substance reduces blood pressure. Clonidine inhibits the release of norepinephrine from peripheral and central nerve endings, which causes the blood vessels to relax, thereby reducing blood pressure. If Iporel is used for a long time, it causes a reduction in peripheral blood resistance. The drug is well absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract and excreted in the urine.

When is Iporel used?

The indication for the administration of Iporel is arterial hypertension. This preparation is used to treat all forms of arterial hypertension, both primary and secondary.

Dosage of Iporel

The dosage of Iporel is determined individually for each patient by the attending physician. The drug is administered orally. It should not be discontinued suddenly – the dose should be gradually reduced, because after abrupt discontinuation of clonidine administration, a sharp increase in blood pressure occurs, which may endanger the patient’s health and even life.

Contraindications to the use of Iporel

Iporel should not be used in children under 12 years of age. Iporelu should not be used in people who are hypersensitive to clonidine. This drug is not recommended for patients suffering from depression (it may worsen its symptoms) and diabetes treated with insulin. Iporel should not be administered to patients who are taking diuretics, vasodilators, beta-blockers, drugs containing digitalis glycosides, hypnotics and sedatives, and insulin concomitantly. A contraindication to the use of Iporel is also bradycardia (too slow heart beat) in the course of sick node syndrome or atrioventricular block. Iporel is not recommended for pregnant or breastfeeding women. It may be administered only when absolutely necessary. The condition of the mother and child should then be monitored on an ongoing basis. Iporel passes into breast milk – there is twice as much milk in milk as in plasma. Iporel should not be given to children under 12 years of age.

Possible side effects of Iporel

In the early stages of using Iporel, it may cause dry mouth and fatigue. These symptoms disappear after a few days as the body gets used to clonidine – there is no need to stop taking the drug or reduce your dose. Other side effects of Iporel include (rarely) sleep disturbances, a sharp drop in blood pressure when changing from sitting to standing, headache and dizziness, depression, problems with bowel movements, slow heart rate, allergic reactions, numbness of the hands and feet, disturbed sensation and the formation of edema in patients suffering from renal insufficiency. Problems such as gynecomastia (an enlargement of the mammary glands in men) and difficulty passing urine may also occur.

Precautions when using Iporel

Before using Iporel, check that the drug has the current expiry date. It should be stored at room temperature, in a tightly closed container, out of the sight and reach of children. Iporek may have a negative influence on the ability to drive and use machines.
