Def .: An assisted reproductive technique involving the administration of a specially prepared sperm into the uterus through a flexible catheter.
Clinical: The first step is controlled ovarian stimulation with gonadotrophins or in combination with clomiphene citrate and GnRH antagonists. Ovulation induction with gonadotrophins increases the chance of pregnancy while increasing the risk of multiple pregnancy. When the follicle diameter exceeds 18 mm, chorionic gonadotropin is administered and 24 hours later insemination is performed. Obtaining a sample of highly motile sperm cells is possible by selecting them using the swim-up technique or by passing through a filter made of glass fiber. Using this technique, it is possible to obtain 6-10% of pregnancies per cycle, assuming that the number of sperm cells in the sample showing normal mobility is at least 1 million / ml.
