Intra-plaque onychomycosis. How does the disease develop?

Syn .: Endonyx onychomycosis – EO, intraungual onychomycosis, dermatophytosis of the nails.

Clinical: Its development occurs as a result of the penetration of pathogenic fungi into the nail plate from the side of its free edge, but (unlike in the case of DLSO) without the previous occlusion of the placenta. It is characterized by an uneven surface and lamellar exfoliation of the nail plate with a slight milky appearance. The nail is matte.

Due to the lack of placental involvement, subungual keratosis and onycholysis do not occur. May be the result of infection with dermatophytes from the species: T. soudanense and T. violaceum.
