We rarely think about how important the profession of a taxi driver is in the modern world. But it is precisely thanks to taxi drivers that many do not think about how much money is needed to maintain their own car and at what time they need to leave the house in order to catch the bus and catch the airport; do not worry about the fact that they will not be able to go home even at the very late hour.
We talk about the professional holiday of those who quickly and safely help us move from point A to point B in our material.
When is Taxi Driver Day celebrated in Our Country and the world
Every year Taxi Driver Day takes place on the same day – March 22, in 2023, millions of taxi drivers in Our Country and around the world will celebrate their professional holiday.
history of the holiday
Taxi Driver’s Day is an international holiday. March 22, 1907 is considered the beginning of the “countdown” of the existence of a taxi service. It was on this day in the UK that cars for the first time appeared on the roads, equipped with special meters – taximeters (from the French word “tax” – fee).
However, the first prototypes of a taxi appeared much earlier. It is believed that even in ancient Rome there were chariots on which you could move around the city for money. In the Middle Ages, private cabs offered their services, but the cost of such transportation was often too high for the average person to use it. Therefore, only people with great wealth could make such private trips.
Since 1890, fiacres, hired horse-drawn carriages, began their work in Paris. They can be considered the closest relatives of modern taxis, although at that time, of course, there was no talk of any taximeters – mandatory attributes of hired cars today.
In Our Country, the first taxis also appeared in 1907, but after some time, due to revolutionary events, they temporarily ceased to exist. And only a few years later, on June 21, 1925, the taxi service was reopened. It is this date that drivers consider to be the birthday of the modern taxi in our country, celebrating it along with the International Taxi Driver Day.

Popular questions and answers
Why are taxi cars painted yellow?
Initially, the idea to paint all the cars in the park in one bright color came to the mind of the founder of Hertz, John Hertz. He took old cars as payment for new ones and repainted them. There are certain advantages to using one bright color of a taxi car – they are clearly visible in the city, because they immediately stand out from the rest of the cars. It is not surprising that over time, the tradition of painting cars in yellow was adopted by the rest of the taxi companies in the world.
