Music is the greatest invention of mankind, existing on earth for many thousands of years. It is an integral part of the life and self-expression of people, reflects the cultural traditions and customs of different peoples. The language of music is simple and understandable to everyone, regardless of nationality and linguistic affiliation. Like no other art, music is able to penetrate the soul, heart and mind of a person, filling them with sensations and emotions. It is not surprising that this truly unique language of culture has its own holiday – International Music Day.
When is International Music Day 2022?
International Music Day around the world, including in Our Country, is celebrated annually 1 October. In 2022, celebrations and concerts will be held in honor of this event.
history of the holiday
The holiday of all musicians and composers is quite young. International Music Day was established in 1973 at the 15th General Assembly in Lausanne at the initiative of the International Music Council of UNESCO.
However, for the first time the holiday took place only on October 1, 1975 after the Assembly received in November 1974 a letter from the Chairman of the Council Yegidi Menuhin and his deputy Boris Yarustovsky, which outlined the goals of the holiday and specific proposals for events in honor of the holiday.
The purpose of the International Day of Music was to spread the art of music in all sectors of society and the realization of the ideals of peace and friendship between peoples, the fulfillment of cultural exchange and mutual respect for the aesthetic values of different communities.
In Our Country, International Music Day began to be celebrated in 1996, when it was 90 years since the birth of the famous Soviet composer Dmitry Shostakovich. In 1973, he wrote to the UN with a proposal to establish a music festival. The composer believed that this kind of art would help different peoples to find mutual understanding and unite them. Thus, Dmitri Shostakovich became one of the initiators of the establishment of the Day of Music.
Holiday traditions
On October 1, concerts and music festivals, creative evenings of famous performers and composers, competitions for young talents and experienced musicians are held all over the world. They organize thematic lectures, round tables, exhibitions of musical instruments and works of art related to music.
Large-scale concerts are held in Moscow and St. Petersburg on International Music Day.
The easiest and most affordable way to celebrate this holiday is to spend the day with a playlist of your favorite songs.
