International Light Lager (International Lite Lager)

A distinctive feature of the style is high attenuation, that is, the degree of density reduction during fermentation. It does not have a bright bouquet, the taste is balanced. Served cold, very refreshing in the heat.

Malt and hop aromas are weak but pronounced. Floral and herbal nuances are possible. Fermentation is mostly clean, but yeast is allowed (a light apple shade appears). The bouquet may have tones of corn, a small content of dimethyl sulfide is allowed.

Color – golden-straw, transparent. Foaming is weak, the “cap” quickly disappears. The taste is moderately malty, sweetish, bready notes are felt in the aftertaste. Hop bitterness is weakly expressed, hop flavor may be absent, often accompanied by floral and herbal tones. International Pale Lager is well balanced, but not as neutral as American and American Light Lagers. A slight “shift” to either side is possible: malt or hops.

The variety is light or medium-bodied, thanks to the high carbonation it tingles the tongue.

Since this style of beer belongs to mass consumption drinks, a pronounced “character” taste is not welcome. A strong aroma is a sign of a spoiled product.

The category includes many varieties, the style was developed as a higher-quality analogue of the American lager. Similar in flavor to pilsner, but less bitter and hoppy. Strong variations are similar to the Munich helles.

The production uses two- or six-row barley and sometimes unmalted raw materials – corn, sugar, rice – but this is not necessary.
