It is difficult to find a person who would not like a strong aromatic drink. Millions of people around the world start their day with a cup of coffee. Did you know there is Coffee Day? We tell you when it will be in 2022 and how it will be celebrated

Africa, namely Ethiopia, is considered the birthplace of coffee. According to legend, an Ethiopian shepherd discovered the ability of coffee beans to give energy back in the XNUMXth century. But reliable information about the use of coffee dates back to the XNUMXth century. From Ethiopia, the drink migrated to the east, and by the XNUMXth century it had spread to Italy, Indonesia and America. Coffee is now a popular drink all over the world.

There are several dates associated with coffee.

International coffee day is celebrated 1 October, 2022 will be no exception. This date was set by the International Coffee Organization. It is on this day that most producing countries begin to harvest coffee beans.

The first coffee festival was held in 1983 in Japan, and then other countries picked up the idea. It was celebrated on different days, and only in 2014 the International Coffee Organization (ICO) established a single International Coffee Day. A year later, the first celebration took place in Milan. Now it is celebrated in 75 countries.

National Coffee Days

17 April Italians celebrate coffee day. The second name of this holiday is Espresso Day, because Italy is its homeland. The organizer of the holiday is the National Institute of Italian Espresso, a fairly popular public organization.

There are also other national coffee days. In Ireland it is celebrated twice. 25 January week-long celebrations begin in connection with National Irish Coffee Day. On the on September 19 is National Coffee Day.

In Iceland, the holiday does not have an exact date: Sun Coffee Day is celebrated on the first day of the sun’s appearance after the polar night.

In Norway, Hungary, Sweden, USA, Canada it is celebrated on September 29, in Austria and Japan – 1 October, in Switzerland – 16 May.

In Peru, the date is floating – every fourth Saturday of August, in other countries of South America it is fixed: 24 May in Brazil 27 June in Colombia on September 12 in Costa Rica.

Holiday traditions

The purpose of the holiday is the development of the coffee industry and the promotion of the drink. On Coffee Day, seminars, demonstration performances by baristas, and master classes are held. Many companies and coffee houses organize promotions or drink tastings, arrange lotteries.

This is a celebration of plantation workers, roasters, vendors and baristas, as well as all lovers of the drink. Of course, the best way to celebrate it is with a cup of coffee. Visit your favorite coffee shop or buy yourself a new coffee maker in honor of the holiday.

  • At first, coffee was prepared as a decoction from the dried shell of coffee beans, and only then they began to roast the beans on charcoal.
  • In 1465, the first store was opened in Constantinople selling coffee beans, and a hundred years later the first public coffee house appeared there.
  • Tsar Alexei Mikhailovich was recommended to drink coffee by his court physician Samuel Collins.
  • In Our Country, the first coffee house was opened under Empress Anna Ioannovna in 1740.
  • The French philosopher Voltaire drank 50 cups of coffee a day. He lived to be 83 years old.

  • There are two types of coffee beans most commonly used to make coffee: Arabica and Robusta. Arabica has a very pleasant taste, while Robusta contains more caffeine and has a fairly low cost. Often manufacturers mix both types.
  • Coffee beans are harvested by hand. It is no coincidence that on International Coffee Day, activists try to draw attention to the working conditions of coffee pickers.
  • There are many ways to prepare an invigorating drink: cezve, French press, filter, capsule, geyser coffee makers, espresso machine.
  • For each method of making coffee, a different grinding of beans is used: fine – for brewing in a Turk, medium – for filter coffee and coarse – for a French press.
  • The limit is 8 cups of espresso per day.
  • In addition to coffee itself, there are a huge number of coffee drinks. Widely known are latte, cappuccino, raf, glace, macchiato and others.
