Correctly chosen color allows you to visually eliminate many flaws in the layout. What color solutions will help to change our life for the better in 2009?
Recently, decorators have been paying even more attention to color therapy (the science of the influence of color on a human condition) than to the philosophy of feng shui. It is understandable, because skillful work with color allows you to visually eliminate many planning flaws and correct not ideal proportions of the premises. Let’s see what coloristic solutions will help change our life for the better in the coming year. The past exhibitions Abitare il Tempo (Verona) and I Saloni WorldWide (Moscow) marked the five main colors of 2009.
Tips for choosing colors from ELLE Decor:
The main trend (albeit not the most original, but perhaps the most win-win) is the combination of white and black. These two colors balance each other and bring everyone’s attention to the interior. As an option, it is proposed to consider creamy and chocolate shades.
All other color trends can be regarded as a kind of reminder of the coming spring and summer. Not only sofas, armchairs, chairs, but also facades are “painted” in yellow, orange and red, as well as numerous shades of green, blue and lilac.
Furniture that is active in color is recommended to be placed on a stricter background, or to combine everything with the same white furnishings. Color is color, but measure is still needed.
Warm colors are considered to be from yellow to red-violet. But since one color can affect another, the same reddish-purple objects will appear warmer when in close proximity to green objects, and colder next to orange ones.
Cold colors include blue-violet to yellow-green. They also depend on “cold” and “warm” neighbors.

Trend # 1. Black and white
With white, the room looks more spacious and cleanerbut also more isolated and boring. Accents – objects of more active tones can help. The traditional, and therefore almost timeless, option is a combination of white and black. It is believed that the first has a positive effect on a person’s spirituality, and the second endows him with a sense of his own dignity. For us, something else is important: against a neutral background, any dark object will look brighter, and therefore more advantageous. The mirror situation is also quite viable – white products on a black background.
Trend # 2. Yellow and orange
The two colors of the sun – yellow and orange – can be absolutely calmly introduced into the design of children’s rooms and, oddly enough, offices. These paints will tone up and energize, contribute to the cognitive and thought processes. At the same time, it is worth considering such a nuance: these colors are in abundance excite and unnerve, and strongly. So yellow and orange are best suited for “protective coloring” of individual furnishings, for example, pedestals or armchairs.
Trend # 3. Green
Green furniture and accessories are the answer to the deficit of vegetation, which the townspeople feel very acutely. Such an environment allows you to equip a “corner of nature” in your home without any problems. In this case, the shade of green does not really matter. And apple, and herbal, and bottle, and olive will equally help us to feel peaceful and calm, bring us closer not only to nature, but also to each other.
Trend # 4. Purple
Making a decision to buy furniture in purple tones means declaring yourself as a creative person. But be careful: don’t let the declaration sound too loud. Purple, used in excess, can tire not only the owner, but also his guests. By the way, a less radical solution is offered to the attention of those to whom this color seems to be too active from the very beginning – furniture made in blue, cyan or purple. This environment encourages creativity just as much.
Trend # 5. Red
The most active color is, of course, red. It excites, inspires, gives energy and strength. Given such a strong effect of this color, it is usually used in fragments – as an accent. Especially where busy traffic is welcome – in hallways and kitchens. However, now manufacturers strongly recommend expanding the “area” of red, including it in the list of colors “allowed” in living rooms, bedrooms and offices.
