Insufficient vaginal lubrication – how to deal with it?

I am 53 years old and have been experiencing vaginal dryness for some time. Pain occurs during sexual intercourse, more recently even when walking.

Is this nuisance related to the menopause, or can I do something about it? I am still a very active woman, both professionally and privately. ~ halina53

Unfortunately, vaginal dryness is one of the menopausal symptoms associated with the disappearance of thinning of the mucous membranes – including the vagina. Responsible for this is the decrease in the level of estrogen in the blood serum. You can use neutral gels for the vagina only for the duration of sexual activity, but it is only symptomatic and does not remove the cause of this condition. Much better and long-term effects are exerted by the use of hormone replacement therapy generally or only locally, if there are contraindications for systemic use. Such drugs in the form of balls / globules or cream are used 1 or 2 times a week. Improvement occurs about a month after starting medications.
