Installing a geyser in an apartment: rules

Technological progress has not bypassed Russia, but the quality of public services leaves much to be desired. If you want to live comfortably, use hot water daily, the solution will be to install a gas column in the apartment. Gas equipment cannot be installed arbitrarily – it is unsafe for you and your neighbors. You need to learn how to properly draw up documents and what requirements to follow when connecting.

It is not recommended to act on your own, as at best you will receive a fine, at worst it will lead to an emergency.

Norms and rules of installation

Technically, mounting the column with your own hands is not difficult. However, not everyone is able to act in strict accordance with safety regulations. A person with the appropriate skills can install the equipment, but only a company specialist with a license can connect it to the highway.

Before you begin, you need to collect the necessary documents and obtain permits. What design scheme to choose to legitimize the work? It depends on a number of reasons:

1. For the first time, you are installing equipment that will replace the central water supply (provided that gas is supplied to the room).
2. You want to replace an old or broken unit.
3. You comply with the requirements of the services to move the device from the bathroom, toilet or other place not intended for this purpose to another room.

It is important to take the choice of technology seriously. Not only the design and power of the product matters, but also the type of combustion chamber. If your house has a chimney (do not confuse it with ventilation), then you can buy open-type models. They are just presented in a wide range. But if there is no chimney, then a closed-type model is suitable: combustion products are forced out in it, through a channel in the wall.

We repeat: be careful. The wrong choice will lead to the need to replace equipment and unnecessary expenses.

Now about documents. To install a column in the kitchen, you need to get permission, register it. But first you need to collect a package of documents. At the same time, you need to know that in a number of situations, installing a column is impossible.

The location of the water heater is not provided

Surprisingly, in apartments where a stove is allowed, the placement of a flow heater may be prohibited. This is possible in houses with a large number of storeys (more than 11 floors), as well as in the redevelopment of premises. We are talking about options when the apartment is remodeled as a “studio” or the kitchen is combined with the living room – this is not possible for the installation of the Civil Code. This also applies to apartments without a kitchen or rooms with a shared kitchen (communal housing).

Gas equipment is prohibited to be placed in residential premises.

If you have a studio apartment, this option is also prohibited. In this case, the kitchen is combined with another room, that is, with a living room. Shared kitchens, such as those in hostels, also belong to the forbidden category. Before deciding to buy a column, carefully study the documents for the apartment. They contain the necessary data about the parameters of the room.

If everything is in order, then prepare:

• Application to the gas service.
• A document confirming the ownership.
• Project of gas and water mains, chimney channel.
• Plan of the apartment from the BTI.

In addition, you will need:

• The act on the technical condition of the chimney obtained from the fire inspection.

• Documents for the purchased column model.
• Permission to redevelop the premises.
• Reconstruction request.

After the documents have been collected and permission for registration has been received, specialists will come to you and connect in accordance with the requirements of the law.

How to change equipment

Everything is a little easier here. Since the documentation was collected during the initial installation, you just have to contact the Housing Office, take copies of the diagrams, the piping plan, the chimney. Then write two statements:

• About replacing the old model with a new one – at the same place.
• About the permission to work with the water and gas main.

If you want to install equipment in a new location, you will need to obtain a refurbishment project. This is due to the fact that the supply line will undergo changes. In fact, you need to build the same package as in the case of the initial installation.

How to install equipment

It is necessary to comply with the requirements and take into account the placement standards:

• The kitchen area should be from 7,5 square meters. m.
• Ceilings at least 2m high.
• The diameter of the chimney opening is from 120 mm.
• Fastening is carried out on a wall made of brick or concrete (non-combustible materials). For additional protection, galvanized sheets (1 mm thick) and thermal insulation are installed.
• First of all, a gas shut-off valve is installed. It is dyed yellow and left in the public domain.
• The minimum pressure in the system is from 0,1 atm.
• The distance from the stove is at least 10 cm.
• It is allowed to connect the exhaust pipe only to a chimney or a special channel in the wall. Ventilation connection is prohibited.
• Distance from the floor – from 1 meter.
• The room should have natural ventilation (window, window).

What you need to start working:

• If it is not included in the kit, then a galvanized pipe (from 1 meter) is bought to remove combustion products.
• Purification filter for “softening” water and reducing the amount of impurities.
• Gas hose.
• Fittings.
• Dowels
• Drill.
• Carob keys.
• Sealant.
• Fum tape.

How to organize the process yourself:

• Measure the distance between the column fasteners. Mark out for drilling on the wall.
• Make holes with a drill or puncher and install dowels or hooks, they are usually supplied in the kit.
• Install the housing on the mounts.

• Connect water hoses to the pipes, bring the other ends to the column fittings. Flexible or PVC hoses up to 2,5 meters can be used.

• Now check the strength of the connections. To do this, turn on the water and see if there is a leak.
• Install the chimney. Attach one end to the body pipe, the other lead to the chimney opening. Make sure there are no gaps. They are sealed with sealant.

Before organizing a chimney, it is recommended to check the presence of draft. This can be done with a burning match, the flame of which, when brought to the chimney, should deviate to the side.

• When using a coaxial pipe, it is led out into a hole in the wall.
• The last step is to connect to the gas main. This job is best left to the experts.

At the end of the work, a check of the equipment is carried out:

• Open the fuel supply valve.
• Lubricate the connections with soapy water to prevent leakage.
• Tighten the clamps, install the clamps, if necessary.

Chimney organization

Ventilation must be working, it’s good if there is an exhaust hood. So, with a leak at night, proper ventilation can save the lives of apartment residents.

When arranging the chimney, keep in mind that the length of the pipe should not exceed 3 meters. No more than 3 bends are allowed. When using corrugations, it is necessary to exclude its sagging, which can interfere with the removal of smoke. All connections are checked for tightness.

Common Installation Mistakes

Unauthorized placement of speakers is not uncommon for our country. Therefore, experts identified several main problems:

• Placement of the device in the bathroom. The room has no windows and normal ventilation, what to say about the chimney.
• The desire to hide the product in a closet leads to a malfunction, especially if the device needs to take air from the room.
• Wrong connection. Some users confuse gas pipes with water pipes. This leads to water ingress into the highway, which not only disables equipment, but also brings inconvenience to neighbors.
