PSYchology

A torn, psychologically unstable world, flawed in its most intimate basis — in the family, in relationships between close people — appears in these short stories. These are just outlines, sketches of mental trouble, but the slight sketchiness of the letter does not prevent the Frenchwoman Claire Castillon from fitting a whole human destiny in a short novel.

Heroes can make a very small mistake, take literally half a step to the side and immediately get lost in their own delusions and fears. The mother tries to be her daughter’s real friend and imperceptibly falls into infantile madness. The heroine of another story brings the child to illness with her importunate care. Castillon deliberately exaggerates, deliberately writes harshly and exaggerates, which makes invisible psychological viruses obvious to the reader.

Ripol classic, 2009
